“Three visits and counting...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2013

Our 4th trip to Rome and our THIRD stay at this wonderful Hotel. Need I say more?

Should we get lucky enough for another trip to Rome, this is the ONLY Hotel we would consider. Not only is the place immaculate, it is continually freshened in every aspect and looks as beautiful now as it did back in the 1930's. It is classic and has not been updated. The staff truly remembered my wife and I and described certain (pleasant) situations that occurred during previous visits going back 5 years!! Unfortunately, the breakfasts, although very well prepared and presented, also have not changed. For return guests, a varied menu would be an added plus.

My best regards to the owner and staff of this fine Roman Hotel..

Room Tip: Upper floors are quieter and the views are calming, to say the least.

OK - negatives first. The hotel is a little further away from the centre of things than we had expected, but getting cabs was not an issue and as there were four of us, most trips only worked out at a handful of Euros each which wasn't much more than the bus or underground.

Rooms were extremely comfortable and a decent size, Reception was large and the staff extremely helpful, but the star of the hotel is the roof terrace.

Breakfast and evening drinks are taken on the roof terrace which overlooks the Vatican and the rest of Rome. It's a truly wonderful way to start the day with breakfast as the sun comes up and finishing it with a cocktail watching the sunset.

Really nice hotel.

The hotel was exactly what one would expect from a hotel of this size in a major city, apart from the room size, which was small but seems to be standard in Italy. Everything worked, the staff were helpful and friendly so no complaints. The deal breaker was the roof terrace where you can sit outside and have a drink or breakfast in the mornings. The space feels very green and the views are wonderful. It is situated a little way, and uphill, from the main attractions.

Just returned from our first visit to Italy, which only allowed us 3 days in Rome. We stayed at the Marcella Royal and loved the location. We actually walked from the Central train station (pulling our carry-on luggage, it was a 10-15 minute walk). This is the only hotel we stayed at in Italy (the remainder of our time was in B&Bs/villas). The pluses of this hotel are many: loved the location - ate at 3 nice restaurants within 2 blocks of the hotel and THE best gelato was right around the corner. Our room was a standard double and was very clean, though a bit small (by American standards). The room was extremely sound-proof - we were on the 5th floor and didn't hear a peep around us. This was the softest, most comfortable bed I slept on while in Italy (but still not soft by American standards). Our bathroom was clean and equipped with a regular bathtub/shower unit, which had great water pressure. There were at least 3 convenient outlets in the bedroom area alone (nearly amazing for any hotel!). Room had a hairdryer, safe & mini fridge. The rooftop deck was lovely to meet our travelling friends for drinks and the breakfast area is also on the deck, but is glass enclosed. The included breakfast was very good - big selection and plenty of food. The staff at the deck bar and the front desk were extremely helpful in recommending restaurants and making dinner reservations for us. The only negatives were that our room was on the small side (but we could have upgraded for a bigger room) and our room's décor was quite garish...or maybe just Italian?! Despite those two things, I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Small but friendly and comfortable base while in Rome. Just out of the main hub but short walk and this benefited us as its quieter at night which can be a problem in Rome! Rooms were small which again is typical but we had everything we needed.

I booked this hotel knowing it was a bit out of the way, in a quieter part of town, because I was traveling with my mom in a wheelchair. The hotel was exactly what we needed. It was in a nice residential area, close to all the Ministry offices but close enough that you could walk to everything within 20 minutes, or in our case, a few minutes by cab.

The staff were some of the friendliest we have met. The were always friendly upon our arrival. They offered great tips on where to grab a quick bite, or a nicer sit down meal. They realized we would need a bigger cab for our wheelchair and luggage and arranged to have a minivan transport us back to the airport and it was there within 15 minutes.

The rooftop breakfast area and bar were wonderful. Breakfast was good and the views were spectacular. I had a single room, which was small, but more than adequate. The air conditioning took a while to get going but once it was up and running it cooled everything down. The shower in the single room was tight. It was a corner unit with rounded doors to maximize space. If you dropped your soap you might as well forget about bending down unless you turned off the water and opened the doors. It was a bit of a squeeze.

My parents had a double room and that room was very adequate. They had a walk in shower to make it easier for my mom. The room had a king sized bed and a seating area. It was a good sized room and you didn't feel cramped.

I plan on visiting Rome next year again and would definitely stay here. You can experience all the rush of the city but step away to your hotel in a quiet part of town at the end of the day. Plus, you are surrounded by restaurants, bakeries, and gelato shops where the locals shop so you know it's all good.

Great staff, great area, a great find.

Room Tip: Rooms facing street have small balconies you can step out onto. Single rooms are a bit small but dou...
