When another hotel refused to honor a confirmed reservation, we wound
up at the Sistina. What a delightful surprise - great staff, great room, perfect location, beautiful public rooms, and a great breakfast. The only drawback was the weak A/C; but, then, we were in Rome during a brutal heat wave. We probably did better at this hotel than our original pick. Next time, we'll just book here FIRST.

I read the reviews and booked a twin room. We could only guess how this hotel could be rated 4 Stars..Maybe because if offers hairdryers and sometimes eggs at breaksfast?

What it does not have is any news or tv channel in English. Upon arrival there was not a doorman (never was) nor a bellman. We found in our room-a toliet that did not stop running, a shower that took 15 minutes to get hot water, gaps in the marble to the door in the bath. The twin was two tiny rooms just large enough to get a twin in each room. The woodwork was dirty and the wallpaper was peeling and also dirty. The last night my husband called from the states and I had to go down to the lobby and talk to him at the front desk because they could not get the call to go through to our room. They called to tell us our phone didn't work. Read again- they called to tell us that our phone did not work. Once downstairs I was told there was not another phone available in the entire hotel. So our conversation on the hotel switchboard was brief as we had to hang up when the phone rang. We asked for a taxi to be called to take us to the airport but was told the hotel used a car service and on and on.
We felt very taken advantage of with paying what we did for the room. It was not a 4 Star Hotel.

A very nice hotel, not sure it deserves a 4 star rating. There are NO amenities at this hotel. The staff however was great.

To sum up the room were a little beat and the hotel a little run down. Great location.

The Sistina is a terrific spot to venture forth to explore most of Rome. We had a triple room which was very spacious for our 18-year old daughter, husband, and myself although the shower was small. My husband, however, had no problem fitting in and he's 6'5" and 235 lbs. The beds were very comfortable. The first night we discovered that our daughter's bed was missing a spring in the middle and, after letting the staff know about it in the morning, it had been replaced by the time we returned in the afternoon. The elevator is also helpful for lots of luggage. Our room was immaculately clean. The staff were also extremely helpful. Unfortunately my purse had been stolen in Venice and they allowed us to use their phones as well as had the number for the general Visa (credit card) office which consolidated the number of calls I had to make. On a much more important note, when the computer broke down as my daughter was emailing, they had it back up and running by evening time! We also were able to use our calling cards for free on the hotel phone. We faced the busy Via Sistina but with the double windows as well as the metal doors closed, we never heard a thing. We didn't need air conditioning but imagine during the summer they have it which would allow one to keep the windows closed. Otherwise it would have been very noisy. There are signs of aging and a few worn spots in some of the common areas but for the price, service and location, I think its a terrific value.

  • Liked — Location and spacious of our room
  • Disliked — The slightly worn appearance

Hotel Sistina is ideally placed to see all the attractions in Rome by foot. I didn't think it was worth a 4 star rating - however, it was clean, secure and the staff were polite which is pretty much all you need. And compared with some of the horror stories you hear about hotels in Rome we were quite happy!
