Myself and my partner were dreading staying at this hotel after the majorly disappointing reviews and the pictures posted so far. The first impression on entering the hotel was not overly bad, but the place looked very tired and in need of some serious money being thrown at it. I can appreciate that hotels in Italy and Europe do not match the expectations of that which we expect in England (even by travelodge standards), but they were probably milking this a bit here.
Our room looked similar to that portrayed on the website, but the pictures were probably taken many years ago. The bedcovers were tired and discoloured, the bathroom was ok but the shower cubicle should probably have been ripped out due to the fact that the (broken and shattered) doors didn't shut properly, thus rendering them rather redundant. The description 'wet room' seems appropriate in this case. The room had no air conditioning but I wasn't really expecting this.
The location of the hotel isn't that great, and if we were to visit again, I'd definitely stay closer to the main attractions, given that train station areas are rather unsavoury generally speaking.
Overall however, the room was clean and it was cheap, so I wasn't disappointed. Had I paid twice as much, my description would be somewhat different.
The day before we left, my partner noticed a couple in reception complaining about the state of their room and how it didn't match the pictures on the website. I remember thinking that the reception staff must hear that an awful lot......
