We thought the Borromini was great. My fiance and I traveled to Rome from Vermont for Christmas week. Admittedly, I was a little apprehensive after reading some of the reviews; however, we found the Borromini to be in a fine location (we're walkers and hikers), very close to the Villa Borghese, which makes for a lovely walk to/from sites, with very nice staff and accomodations. They had a great American style buffet breakfast with eggs cooked to order, meats, cereals, yogurts, fruits, juices, coffee, etc. The breakfast was $12 Euros, but hey, in Rome, for all-you-can-eat, that's a bargain. A two minute walk to a bus or tram stop will take you anywhere in the city you want to go. At the nearest piazza (where the bus/tram stops are located) there was a lovely little cafe that had very reasonable food, so we ate dinner there frequently on our way back to the room after a day out. The room itself was neat, clean, and the location of the hotel itself was residential - quiet and nice. They even gave us a surprise bottle of champagne for my fiance's birthday - and it was really good too! Its true that the Borromini is somwhat removed from the "center" of Rome, but then again, there is so much to see all over Rome, the city didn't seem too large/overwhelming, all within walking distance, and the price was right ($150 night), that we thought it was well worth it, and we'd definitely stay there again!
