“Hotel in Rome”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 16, 2013

Excellent location in Rome. Close to Fontana de Trevi and to bus stops. Stayed here with my two teens in July. We had a big room, with a separate bed in a separate area. Big bathroom. Lobby is very nice, with a nice living room. Breakfast is very good. Overall, the staff was very nice. They offered to keep our luggage until check in time, and even gave us the room early. They arranged taxis, maps and tours. There is a supermarket next to the hotel, which is very convinient. I shall stay there again. Not cheap, but what is cheap in July in Rome...?

Room Tip: The room for 3 is big, and has a separate area for the 3rd person. I know there are rooms with a bal...

having only one night left in Rome, Italy my husband and I stay at this newly renovated hotel in the heat of the city. Steps away from the Trevi fountain and the Spanish steps we were surrounded by wonderful little restaurants and shops, small takeaways. The room was clean and comfortable. A deep soaking tub to let travel lag drain away. The breakfast the next morning was a large assortment of breakfast food as well as hot food served quickly and made fresh. We would certainly stay there again.

As you say “newly renovated hotel” this feeling comes trough all our investing in the last years, recently we refurbish our cafeteria/breakfast room, we also add more variety at our buffet breakfast. Last week we changed all the moquet on the 2 and 3 floor and more in going on……surprise!

Great hotel and excellent value. Rooms were clean and staff was great. The location was perfect for touring the city. Breakfast was bountiful. There was a charge for in room wifi but that is the only complaint I have.

My family and I spent a few days in Rome during August. It is our first visit so we did not know what to expect. I chose this hotel because of recent good reviews and we were not disappointed. I booked two rooms for us.

Rome was hot and it was the summer break. Apparently, the 15th of August is a public holiday so most of the city is shut during that week. Most of the restaurants that were recommended to us were also closed due to the holiday.

Now to the Hotel dei Borgognoni; First of all, there is nothing too fancy about the hotel. It is small and in the middle of gobbled side street of Rome. The room is of good size (by European standards). Our bathroom had a jacuzzi (an added bonus to relief the strain of walking most of the day). The water flow from the shower was pretty strong. The air condition was working very well (it was terribly hot in Rome). There were enough power sockets in the room and one is British standards. The double bed is large and comfortable. The walls are well padded. The window opens at the hotel rear garden and terrace.

Buffet continental breakfast was included with the booking. It included hot and cold items that were freshly cooked. The bread and bakery were equally fresh. The cappuccino and espresso were equally fresh and excellent. You must try the red orange juice from Sicily.

The hotel is located in the Trevi/Spagna region of Rome on a small street called Vie Di Bufalo. The building in front of the hotel had a sculpture of a buffalo's head at its entrance. The hotel is located equi-distance between the Spanish Steps (North) and the Trevi fountain (South). It takes less than 5 minutes walk to reach either location. A 10 minute walk north takes you to the beautiful Villa Borghese with its museum.

A 10 minute walk down south is the Pantheon and a further 10 -15minute walk can take you to the Colosseum. The Vatican is a 10 minute drive to the west of the hotel. So you will notice that you are in the middle of the touristy and old part of Rome.

Food and drink is in abundance (there is a nearby Burger King and McDonalds). Most of the restaurants in the area serve good quality Italian food, not to mention the Gelati shops (a must at least 3 time a day). A couple of Roma's best gelati shops are nearby, one is around the corner from the hotel and the other is beside the Trevi fountain.

The hotel also benefits from a SPAR store (similar to express Tesco store) adjacent to it. The store was useful because we bought loads of water bottles due to the heat. Next to the SPAR is a small pharmacy (came in handy because my little daughter needed a strip plaster). On the main street, Via del Tritone, there is Vodafone and TIM stores. Also, a couple of taxi ranks are available on same street ( a 2 minute walk from hotel).

Thus, the hotel has an excellent location for tourists and the accommodation is of good quality. So why did I rank it as Excellent? the answer is the customer service, plain and simple.

From the moment we arrived till we left, we were showered with extreme hospitality. There is a single machine at the reception to process check-in or check-out. To compensate for that, the second person at the reception and concierge greeted us and started to chat about Rome and Italy. We did not notice the time it took before we had checked in.

The hotel and staff are all too aware of their customers requirements. They clearly knew we weren't there for a luxury spa. We were there to spend most of the time outside the hotel looking at Rome. When we were back to the hotel, we were greeted with genuine smiles, the rooms were done more than twice each day, the beds were comfortable, everything worked properly, and a good breakfast (the only meal at the hotel).

We were really impressed that the hotel does exactly what it says on the tin. I got 110% for what I paid for. It is a small hotel in middle of tourist part of Rome. The accommodation is very adequate and staff are wonderful. What more do you need?

If I had to pick a negative is that the rooms did not have an iron. If you required one then you would have to wait till the maids arrive after 8 in the morning. But that just ought to tell you how well everything else is with the hotel.

All that is left for me is to say, Molto Grazie Hotel dei Borgognoni for a wonderful summer holiday.

Where to start? Great location: walk minutes to Trevi Fountain or longer walk to Colosseum. The hotel is on a nice side street, not noisy, but lots of activity. Walk to great restaurants. Everyone on staff speaks excellent English. The room: small, the bed was actually two twins pushed tightly together, a little disappointing, but no big deal because they are excellent beds. They told me all their rooms were that way. However, the room was pristine, the sheets are beautiful, crisp and high-quality. Extra pillows and blankets in the room, plenty of (expensive) treats in the fridge. Good AC. Nice toiletries. No TV at all unless you pay for it, but we don't care about TV in Rome. Internet free only in lobby, again, not great but not a deal breaker. Grocery store next door: buy your antipasto, bread and wine and store in the fridge in your room for when you want it. Buy your olive oil or other food gifts there, it's 1/3 the price you will pay at the airport. Comfortable lounge area with bar service. Good Italian breakfast. Good cappuccino, American coffee kind of weak, stick with cappuccino or espresso. We will always stay here when in Rome.

Room Tip: We were in 412, small and quiet. Last time we had a patio off our room on a lower floor, but there i...

My husband and I stayed at the Borgognoni for three nights during the crowds and heat of August in Rome. The room was sound proofed so we did not hear any street traffic. The air conditioning system seemed to be updated and we had a thermostat to control the temperature. The location was outstanding - a 7 or 8 minute walk to the Spanish Steps and Metro and 4 minutes to Trevi Fountain. There is a grocery next door to the hotel for purchasing bottled water. The breakfast buffet was adequate, tasty, and the staff extremely efficient and friendly. One of the bellmen, Julio/John, was extremely helpful to us. He assisted us with WiFi before we could get into our room and he helped us to print out our boarding passes. He gave us advice on how to get places and was able to answer all of our questions. The maitre'd behind the front desk during the daytime hours was less than welcoming. He was very aloof and seemed irritated when we asked him questions.
The rooms are small but very clean. If you travel with lots of luggage, this hotel probably won't work for you as there is limited storage space for you belongings. The shower is a small corner shower - if you are looking for something larger - this space won't work for you. There are black out drapes, windows that open, wifi (extra charge), and a pleasant sitting area near the breakfast buffet. I am happy to recommend this hotel and will consider staying here again when I am in Rome. Also, the bed was comfortable.

Room Tip: Ask for the rooms that have been upgraded with new carpet. The hotel was in the process of replacin...

We started our honeymoon in Rome, so I didn't have a source of comparison to other cities. The room was tiny (by U.S. "4-star" standards) but since it was probably originally a section of a bakery built in 50 BC, it may be luxurious by Roman standards.

Great view onto a busy but small street, yet sound-proofed enough to allow light sleepers their slumber.

Good breakfast.

No wifi in rooms (don't remember if it wasn't working, or it simply isn't offered.)

Good location.

"Cute little terrace" (my wife's phrase) in the back, perfectly suited for enjoying an intimate bottle of chianti.
