“Such a central hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 10, 2012

A great hotel in the centre of the shopping area of Rome so really easy to find your way around the town from this central point.

Beautiful rooms downstairs chichi was great as we were part of a larger group and used downstairs as the gathering point. However, the rooms were very very small. i think that I could have hit two walls if lay across the bed! There really was not much room. However, the bathroom was big and a great shower.

I was on my own but if there were two people, the room would never have coped.

Breakfast was fine - everything was made up in advance and not made to measure as one would expect in such a good hotel, but then this had to be balanced with the centre location point.

“go elsewhere”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed December 9, 2012

I stayed at this one time luxury hotel with my son and elderly mother for a weekend. We arrived separately, having booked one single occupancy and a twin room. The rooms were mixed up on arrival and my mother was given the twin much larger room. When my son and I arrived we were offered the single occupancy with a double bed. No apologies were offered and only after much discussion we were finally moved to another more suitable room. This set the tone for our stay: incompetent, haughty staff who seemed not to understand the simplest requests delivered in Italian (we are bilingual). Restaurants were never booked as instructed and one reservation was never cancelled. We gave them some ice packs to carry medicines while travelling to put in the freezer and they never did. Never before have I come across such incompetent and unfriendly service. In addition, the beds were uncomfortable, the pillows rock hard, the room temperature erratic and the recent refurbishment vulgar and over the top. The hotel is badly managed and it has lost its former elegance and exclusivity. The only memorable things about it is the price: too hefty to forget in a hurry. Don't go, choose more wisely: even the neighbouring Plaza is better than this debacle.

Room Tip: Top floor with terraces over Roman rooftops. Even better go to a different hotel

“Nicely appointed and staffed”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 7, 2012

This was a pricier choice for me. A bit of a splurge or stretch option I indulged in. It's in the high rent luxury fashion district a few blocks from the Spanish steps.

For the most part, I'd say it's still slightly out of my price range, but if you have money to blow, this doesn't seem like a bad option for Rome. The rooms were a decent size, the bathrooms all marble. There was a chandelier hanging over the bed. Literally a chandelier. They have a nightly turn-down service and the staff were all professional and helpful. Firm bed.

One note about the staff: I forgot my iPad in the room as I was checking out. I realized I left it as I was on the train to Fiumicino, which was too late to go back and get it. I called them and arranged to have them send it to me in the US. It arrived quickly and without any damage. Some other places might conveniently claim they never found it, or lose it in transit, but D'Inghilterra handled this professionally and without incident.

Again, while pricey for some (19 euro scotch at the hotel lounge, 18 euro daily charge for wifi access), this was a nice place. I imagine this is ideal for the expense account set.

“Great Location for sightseeing in The Eternal City”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 13, 2012

Hotel was extremely well situated only 200m from The Spanish Steps, in a small Piazza.
Good Sized Room and staff were always helpful in planning our days (and meals out at night).
Breakfast was quite good.
Only negative was the cost of transport from and to the airport quoted by hotel ........... over twice as much as we paid having arranged our own limo service before we left UK.

Room Tip: Overlooking the Piazza and if possible get a Corner Room which has a few windows.

“Good location!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 13, 2012

After traveling with a tour in Sicily for a week, we chose what we thought was a top hotel in Rome. Aside from location, there was nothing special about it, and it was twice the price of our other accommodations.. The room and bathroom were good size, but there was no ventilation as they'd turned off the ac and at night it was too noisy to open the window. The feeling of the hotel is "stuffy", "uncomfortable". The breakfast was fine, but the staff seemed stressed and over worked and, consequently, unhappy. Internet was $18 a day (highest we experienced) and didn't work well. When our safe wouldn't open, there was no apology or explanation. I wouldn't stay there again.

Room Tip: Upper floor. Check the room before you move in!
