The hotel itself is nice and the bathroom was much larger than typical European hotels (which is why I rated it three stars). The location is east of the Villa Borghese (one of Rome's nicest outdoor parklands). It's a solid 10-15 minute walk to reach the old city walls (and another 10 minutes walk to the Spanish Steps). Probably the nicest thing I can say is that it's an old-fashioned hotel - right down to the decor. Said in a bit less flattering way, it's a bit stuffy and stogy and probably a place your grandparents would be quite happy. For 'young and hip' people, it's very overpriced, poorly located, and not much fun. The workout room was not very impressive (it looks much nicer in the photos). On the positive, most of ther hotel employees seemed very nice.

If you are traveling in warmer months, it has an Olympic sized outdoor pool - which I'm sure is a big hit when warm enough to swim. Our room also had a small balcony. Unfortunately, we weren't able to enjoy either due to the cold November weather. My wife thinks it's a 4 star...but...

Bottom line: you can do much better for your money (unless you have a ton of extra cash and want to meet other grandparents).

We stayed for one day following our Med. cruise this September. The hotel is impressive and so was the service. Rooms were well equipt, large, clean, and there was even a small balcony. We received great service from the concierge, bell staff. They took great care of our considerable amount of luggage. We enjoyed the gratis breakfast buffet, and our lunch at the pool bar.

However, if you want to see the sights of Rome, this is not the place to stay!! Although we found Rome very walkable, the distance from this hotel to the sights was too great (15E cab ride) to walk from the hotel in the short time we had. For that reason alone, and if you are planning on walking Rome, I would recommend a more central location.

We arrived at 10.30 p.m. after long journey. We unloaded luggage from taxi without help and we were given directions to room but no offer of help with baggage. Every time we left or returned to hotel there was no greeting or acknowledgement. Hot breakfast buffet items were cold all 4 mornings we were there.
Good pool and attendant but every time something annoyed us about hotel we had to keep asking each other “Are we really paying nearly 400 Euros a night for this place?”
It is probably resting on its laurels as a hotel for cruise ship guests and conference attendees .If you are coming to this great city you must be able to do better than this hotel!!

When in Rome stay at the Grand Hotel Parco Dei Principi. Service was flawless and the staff went out of their way to be informative, friendly and to make you feel at home. Everyone was great. The hotel is close enough to all of Rome, but it is located in a upscale beautiful area. This hotel has a wonderful outdoor pool and garden. The pool staff was very attenative with drinks, food, towels and even helped my husband out of the pool(he had a leg injury). The hotel lobby and rooms had a very old world, warm interior and and well maintained. Within walking distance there is a casual, lovely restaurant called "Fiore Di Zucca". The food and pizza were fabulous. We eat there two times and we felt like locals. Before I booked this hotel I read a few mixed reviews. You can stay here with confidence. I am glad I selected this hotel. In fact I look forward to returning.

Let's face it what is there about Rome you couldn't like. A wonderful historic city with so many wonderful landmarks to see. Fail to go to the Vatican and the Sistine Chapel at your peril (we took the tour with a guide - well worth the additional expense as you cut out lots of the queues) then of course there is the Colosseum, The Trevi Fountain, The Spanish Steps, The Pantheon and St Peter's Basillica as well. Do the open top Bus Tour and get on and off at the various places of interest. We were here for the week and absolutely loved it. The hotel has a great outdoor pool (one of very view in Rome I believe) which is well served by a couple of young (Fabio very good looking according to my partner) attendants who don't allow sun beds to be taken up by an assortment of towels at 7am. They even move the umbrellas for you as the sun moves around! All the hotel staff were friendly enough but we felt they were a little aloof compared to those staff we experienced in Lake Garda and Amalfi. Our room had a balcony and a lovely view over the pool and the Villa Borghese Park. The hotel is about a good 15 min walk from the centre of Rome but if you go through the park it is a pleasant hike. There is a courtesy vehicle to take you to the Via Vittorio Veneto but the guy who drove it was on holiday! Most of Rome goes on holiday in August as well, so it's the right time to go as the city is not at all like London or Paris at this time of the year. On occasions I would even go so far as to say it was pretty deserted. With regard to this hotel, you will have a smashing relaxed stay but there are a couple of things to take note of. If you book half board the evening restaurant menu does not change at all EVER. However, there are some lovely dishes on it but you will have some more than once in a weeks stay. The breakfasts are good too! The second thing which of course is not the hotels fault is that you will get bitten by mosquito's quite badly if you don't protect yourself. They get you round the pool or walking through the park and they itch like crazy! Also be warned the Americans love Rome and can be found in great quantity around the Hard Rock Cafe and McDonalds.
This trip was a birthday treat from my partner and the hotel did supply as with a nice bottle of bubbly and some home made biscuits on arrival which was a nice touch. We even took some biscuits home for our parents especially baked by the restaurant and we did not get charged the earth for them. All in all we had a wonderful time in Rome and would recommend the city to anyone. If you want a trip which takes in the sights but you also want some quality chilling time then this hotel would be a good choice. Plus of course for all you ladies there is Fabio to stare at!
