You may think this is a bad review. I promise you it is the truth down to the final punctuation. Hotels.com gave me a refund.

I think the best feature of our stay was the mold on the shower head. Either that or the water leaking onto the floor from the bathroom ceiling or blood stained mattresses. Either one or the other, I can't decide.

The air conditioner did not work and the thermostat shocked me when I touched it. Every morning I woke with a pain in my back. When the thermostat started sparking into the room (in all seriousness) we called for maintenance and after 45 minutes and three more calls the repairman arrived but would not fix the problem without another call to hotel management. He actually tried to convince us that he had indeed solved the problem multiple times but it was clear after our multiple complaints to management that he just did not want to get into the ceiling and actually fix the problem, providing the luxury let alone the safety that $450 a night should pay for.

My wife and I asked for a queen bed, but found that we actually were given 2 cots pushed together. My sister who came with us was promised a cot, but got a very small broken pullout with what we can only assume was a blood stain. Our sheets were never cleaned during the entirety of our stay despite requests.

We were also followed into the hotel by a man in the evening and the hotel offered no security to alleviate the situation. Instead, they allowed him to follow us. We evaded him by switching floors on the elevator a couple of times.

Our card keys to the room didn't work, we had to have it replaced several times and by the end of our stay they had quit working all together. A call to the front desk did not solve the problem, I was told they were to busy to deal with our situation, but when I had gone down the girl behind the counter I spoke to was alone and literally playing an online video game called "Vampire Wars." The same happened when I wanted to know how much the water was in the refrigerator. I asked the price and she told me to come down and check for myself. She was again too busy playing "Vampire Wars."

The room was overall very gross and disgusting. The walls were padded and VERY dirty, as were the curtains. The floor in our room was VERY stained and had obviously been in need of a vacuuming for maybe the past six months. Both the Sink and tub did not drain, and when you flushed the toilet water and excrement would splash out onto the floor mixing with the water already dripping from the ceiling.

I would only recommend this hotel to someone I wished to succumb to small pox or perhaps a remnant of the plague virus, and at $450 a night I wouldn't recommend it to anyone at all. Steer clear, there are better hotels in the area.

Management response from Marcello Mancusi, direttore pubbliche relazioni
(Management representative)
Oct 9, 2009
We are very, very surprised about this comment.
In our daily report we have no trace of such weird complains such as water flooding or shocking air-conditioning, neither Hotels.com informed us of any refund.
We are very engaged to maintaining high level of cleaning and we are famous for safety.
Hotel is getting very good reviews and we have a very high number of repeated guest!

The hotel slightly messed up our reservation and didn't have any rooms available our first night, so they put us up in their sister hotel (Hotel White - 4 Stars). We got a beautiful presidential suite, complete with 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and 2 floors! They transported our stuff back to Tritone the next day at our convenience and put us in the 'superior room' instead of the 'standard room' we reserved. It was a beautiful style, comfortable and friendly staff. Would definitely stay there again! Also, great location.

The hotel is really close to the Trevi Fountain, the bus stop is almost in front of the hotel. First night in rooms on one the lower floors (first or second, don't know). And the noise from the street was very very loud at night. Kept my grandmother, whose room was on the streetside, from sleeping. After the first night we were asked to move into a triple room (rather than a single and a twin room) because they were overbooked (it was a newer room, but just as small)
Since that was not an option (2 smokers, one non-smoker) we were give the suite on the topfloor at a great price! The beds here were very very hard though, big downside :-(
The breakfastroom on the top floor has a great view, breakfast is good.

The standard room I had was really small. The bathroom door could not be fully opened because of the bed, and the way around the bed was partially blocked by the mini-bar fridge. The bathroom window did not shut tight so it was rather chilly in the morning.

The good thing: no complaints in terms of cleanliness. A big relief!

Breakfast is quite decent, too.

Not sure if there are better deals in Rome, but I would be willing to push my luck next time.

I stayed with my partner in this hotel for two nights in November 08. The hotel was booked for us by a company I had to visit in Rome. Like one of the previous reviewers we were assigned room 201. Truly terrible: hardly space to move in, old furniture and exeedingly basic bathroom. Luckily a colleague and his wife were checked into the same hotel and I could compare rooms and realised that not all were as tiny and bad.

When I spoke to the receptist there was a lot of humming and ha'ing and that there were only rooms availabe at the front of the hotel which is truly noisy from traffic. Eventually though we did get another room at the rear of the hotel, in fact at the superior floor. These are the room pictures you see on their website.

Don't get exited though - these rooms are still quite standard and the beds are very basic. Our bathroom was very good though and new.

When we arived the very small lift was out of action - next day it was repaired but by the evening it was out of action again. Pitty the porter who had to schlep the luggage up and down the stairs.

Good points: we didn't get charged an upgrade. A small minibar bill was credited because of our troubles and the (male) receptionists were on the whole very helpful. The location is excellent!
