We arrived at the "hotel" mid afternoon, thinking we had walked into the wrong place. However; this turned out to be the reception area. It turned out the hotel was having extensive renovation works done to it. We WERE NOT told anything about this by thomson, the hotel or great best western. The website did not say anything about the lack of a proper reception, no bar and lounge area - which was one of the main reasons why we had chosen the hotel, so that we could relax and put our feet up after hours of walking around rome. We also found out that you had to go and collect a ticket for breakfast and walk half way up the street, i kidd you not, to the breakfast room which was in a small, but i have to say a nicely done out place, understaffed and cramped area. There was often a queue for breakfast and the dishes where the hot food was kept were often empty, due to their very small size. The rooms were nicely furnished but extremely chlostrophobic even for a city hotel. The bed was quite stiff and the air con made a constant irritating noise and was poised in such a position that it had no benefit to cooling the cramped room down. The bathroom was adequate, no bath, but a small shower which gave you no room atall to move around in. You had to step out of the shower in order to rub shampoo into your head, meanwhile the water temperature was temperamental. I was disgusted to find that when i opened the curtains, the shutters and the windows to find that the back of our room looked down onto what resembled a shanty town come barbeque area, with washing hung from old rusty railings. The staff in reception were fairly helpful but lacked the usual italian charm and humour. Overall i was thoroughly disappointed by the hotel. Oh beware the hotel is in a bit of a dodgy area, littered with drunked tramps, one even tried to wander into "reception" and beggers on mass.
