Hotel D'este is not fancy, but it is clean, the rooms surprisingly roomy and it is close to the metro's one line. There is a supermarket close by. The hotel staff was friendly and English was spoken.
There is an excellent restaurant across the street which came highly recommended in the guide book we had and it turned out to be lovely indeed. China town is 2 blocks to the west and we enjoyed the cheap shopping! There is also a lovely semi precious jewellery shop on the next corner on your way to the Termini station.
Let's be honest, it is not the best part of town and late at night I felt a bit uncomfortable walking home from the station. Although my husband says I am just a paranoid South African!
