My boyfriend and I stayed hear for 5 nights in the week before Easter 06. I must say I went with concerns after reading previous reviews but when I arrived I was pleasantly surprised.

The location was good, about a 5 min walk from the main Termini station, and we found it really easily. As stated before the entrance is down a side passage.

The member of staff who was on reception I couldnt fault, he was smartly dressed, v. friendly and spoke good English. He spent several minutes showing us a tourist map and marking on it the routes to the best bus stops for each attraction, and where to find the best coffee, ice cream, pizza etc.

We found our room which to be fair was pretty small, but had a desk, double wardrobe, safe, large mirror, mini bar fridge (which the staff didnt seem to mind us using for our own food and drinks), air con unit and bedside tables. The bathroom was also crampt due to the inclusion of a bidet and a large sink. The bed was not lumpy or hard, we found ours fiarly comfortable, although it did sag a little in the middle but its wasnt too noticeable! We also had a balcony that looked over the patio and the backs of other buildings, this felt safe to leave open when we were asleep and there was no noise from the street.

As stated previously, the decor needed renewing and was quite retro, although the bedroom furnature lookd reasonably new and was showing no sign of wear and tear. Most importantly, the room was SPOTLESS, no layers of dust or stains as previously reported. The sheets and towels were immaculate and changed daily. The cleaners were also thorough, removing items from shelves to clean underneath etc.

Over the course of the week we found the location to be good, close to a number of cafes and restraunts, extremely close to the Termini station to take excursions and 500m from the bus stops into town, infact we walked on the cooler days as it was only 20-30 mins depending on where you went to.

The breakfast was good, served in a cheery CLEAN dining room. It included a selection of cereals, bread, croissants, cheese, ham, hard boliled eggs, juice, tea & rather good coffee. It looked out onto the terrace area that whilst we were there was in the process of beeing tidied, it looked like they were replanting all the tubs for the summer season.

The rest of the staff were incredibly helpful, spending quite alot of time checking the internet for train times and giving directions to restraunts etc.

In summary, this hotel is a bit dated but its clean, friendly and everything works as it should. DO NOT book this hotel if its something special like a wedding anniversary or if you like everything just so. I probably wouldnt adivse this if you have young children. But if like us you are a young couple or group who just wants somewhere clean, and comfortable to shower and sleep in between sightseeing and nights out then this is the place for you!

I dont know what people expect, we booked through the STA and paid about 40 quid per head per night inc. breakfast! You get what you pay for!

My wife and I stayed one week at this awful hotel. First thing we tried after booking in, and had a look at the room, was to cancel. But that was not possible, we had to pay for the whole week anyway. We seriously considered to
checkout immediately and find another hotel. Unfortunately we didnt, and that partially ruined our summer holiday. The room was VERY tiny and hadnt been upgraded for decades, probably never ever. The walls where so thin that you could easily conversate with the neighbour rooms. Very noisy ear condition what either was
fully on or off. We had to turn if on/off several times each night, but at least it was functioning. The matress felt some 40 years old. The staff was unhelpful and unfriendly. The breakfast was discusting, the eggs was boiled for one hour??
Those people that manages this hotel has ruined many peoples stay in Rome. You should have seen the expression in the faces of people arriving at the hotel.

We stayed for 1 night in October 2004. The entrance to the front desk was dark and gloomy. The front desk receptionist, efficient but unfriendly. The room was VERY small, 1 very lumpy mattress, 1 very hard mattress. The room was clean, except for 1 of the (face) towels was stained. We paid 150 Euros and if I was not so tired, would have walked out and found another hotel. We checked out too early for breakfast but the receptionist in the morning was very friendly.

Quiet, safe but run down property managed sloppily. We stayed three nights October 2004 with two teenagers. We chose this hotel since it was somewhat close (ten minute walk) to Termini yet in a nice quiet street of banks, consulates and residences. Also the price, 140 euros per night, seemed a good value for location. Turkish consulate is just down the street with 24 hour police guards, so you can bet this street is free of pickpockets and homeless immigrants which are a problem elsewhere in the Termini neighborhood. Although I had made reservations well in advance (two months earlier) the rooms were not ready when we arrived and we did not get adjacent rooms as we had requested. The hotel Galileo is set back from the street in the center of a block surrounded by other buildings. All of the rooms are quiet and we had no trouble sleeping due to noise. Comfort was not the best, cleanliness spotty. The beds were old and mattresses sagged. Lots of dust everywhere. The shower had some mildew and drained too slowly. Toilet flushed with difficulty. The facility is generally tired and worn down, little things broken or missing (nobs on drawers, lamps not working). We woke up early one morning to go to Vatican city and breakfast crew arrived late--supposed to serve at 7 am and we had to wait a half hour. There was a lot of yelling and crabby waitress tossed our bread basket on the table without apology. Obvious management problems, and staff not happy. Even though the weather was nice, they didn't want to serve us on the roof terrace since it was too much work. I would not return to this hotel unless I had to--better value is certainly to be had elsewhere. I would not recommend this place to friends.

The hotel was the smallest room I have ever seen in my entire life. The matress was at least 25 years old and was extremely uncomfortable. The breakfast was also the shabbiest I have ever seen in Europe. Finally the staff was courteous, but not helpful in the least. Even with the easiest of questions.

The only good thing about the hotel was that the air conditioning worked and the linens were clean.
