My husband and I have just returned from a very very wet but wonderful three days in Rome. We arrived after at the Doira Hotel after a lot of aggrevation with transfersfrom Ciampino airport (TERRAVISION-Rome council had impounded all the coaches the day we arrived so had to make our own way to Hotel via bus and metro and same on return). We had been up since 2.30am so arrived at the Doria very tired .The Hotel was very easy to find and in a great location. Unfortunately, there appeared to be a problem when we finally arrived at the hotel. A mistake had been made (by staff not us) and would my husband and I do the manager a favour and take two single room for the night. Well, we had booked a double room (since 8th Jan) and I was distraught! It was our 10th wedding anniversary and also my 40th so we had planned this trip for months only to be told we would have to spend the night apart. I'm sorry to say but I burst into tears. After a long trip, trouble with the coach and then this it was too much. I thought the trip was ruined at that point and I'm sorry to say it but why us? Anyway, the Manager saw how upset I had become and out of nothing a double room had appeared!!! To say I was pleased was an understatement but how come it had come to this?? The room was comfortable, very clean and the breakfast was lovely-as was the lady who looked after it all. I know this is meant to be a hotel review but we loved Rome despite the rain and we will be back!!! By the way, the night before we left we saw The Pope when he went to Santa Maria Maggiore for Corpus Christi! Talk about timing!

  • Liked — Very clean rooms/the staff/the location
  • Disliked — Being mucked about when we tried to check in-what was that all about?

What a fantastic hotel.

The rooms were great. Really clean and tidy. Free breakfast included and if its nice weather you can sit out on the superb terrace and enjoy a spectacular view of the Colosseum and Rome.

The most important point to mention however was the beautiful hospitality that we encountered. The staff were so polite and accommodating.

What more can I say. Oh, the LOCATION!!! One of the best you can get in Rome. Right near Termini station, which leads you to all the main attractions of Rome. And the price of course. Very reasonable!!!

YOU WOULD BE CRAZY not to choose this hotel to stay at!!!

I just had to write a review (even though its 2 years later) I stayed in this hotel in Feb 2006 for 5 nights.
I have to say it is a lovely 'little' hotel. The rooms are basic but comfortable and clean. The bathroom is tiny but manageable... and the shower is even tinier!!! but it all adds to the charm.
The staff were lovely and helpful.
The hotel is located within an easy walk to nearly all the usual attractions, Colleseum, Pallintine Hill, Trevi Fountain etc.. and its not far from the main train station either which is great.
The Theatre is not far from here and although it doesnt look like much from the outside (grey concrete) it is absolutely amazing on the inside... although my italy is only very basic and i didnt really understand the opera but it was an experience!! Me and my partner went there as a valentines treat... after he proposed in our room in Hotel Doria... yes i know all the lovely scenic places and he chose the hotel!!! haha! (took a while to get the nerve up!) but even that was lovely cos the staff were so sweet treatting us like royality for the rest of the evening.
There is a cafe around the corner and oh boy!! they do the most fabulous pastries and Gelatis i have ever had... am glad only went in on the last day other wise would not have fit back on the plane.
All in all it is a lovely little hotel and is convenient to all the sights.
I would recommend it.

My husband and I stayed in this hotel for 3 nights in November 2007. I should have written this review a little earlier, sorry. Here are some pictures, enjoy!

Here is how I would break it down:

GOOD:

* Location, very close to the main station
* Good service
* Nice breakfast, which we really enjoyed
* Rooms were nice and sufficient
* The beautiful church across the street
* There is a grocery store right around the corner next to the make-up store. You have to go down the stair but its got everything.

NOT SO GOOD (I don’t want to say bad because I don’t think it was bad)

* Street noise, but from what I hear that’s for most hotels in Rome
* Towels were very thin, not sure if they even were towels
* Shower was very small but useable
* Tiny elevator so get ready to walk up those stairs.

The question is, would I stay at Hotel Doria again? Probably yes I would.
(A word of advice, don’ bother eating at the restaurant that is facing the church, it’s overpriced. After being in Italy for over a week that was the only overpriced meal we had, and it wasn’t that good).
