I just returned from our 5 days in Rome with my 15 year old daughter. I found this hotel on this site and I am very glad I did. The hotel is within a 10 minute walk of Termini and within a 5 minute walk of the Castro Preatorio metro stop.

Our room was on the fourth floor overlooking the gardens of the convent next door. Across of the convent is the Turkish embassy. Next to the Turkish embassy is the Russian embassy, this is on Via Gaeto I believe. On the same street as the hotel but in the other direction is the British Embassy. Needless to say with these facilities nearby, it's a good neighborhood. There are always armed guards at the end of the street 24/7,

The hotel has a complete American/british style breakfast with eggs, ham, bacon and all of the other usuals you expect from continental breakfast service. Perhaps the presence of the British embassy across the street plays a role in the breakfast they serve? At any rate, breakfast is also included in the price of the room. Freet internet access is available in the lobby. The art deco theme of the hotel is carried out throughout the property which creates a nice ambiance.

In reviewing all of the write ups before we chose this hotel, we learned of the adult movie theatre that is just across from the hotel, to the north I believe? That did not disuade us from choosing Hotel Art Deco nor should it. I had completely forgotten about this until our third day there and we walked past it going back to the hotel. The theatre is not well marked by illuminated signage and if you don't know it's there, you won't notice it. I never noticed unsavory characters or a bad element hanging around. I am sure the armed guards at the other end of the block help in that regard :)

Antonio and Gioi who work the front desk during the day bend over backwards to be helpfull. I think for the price and value and the quiet neighborhood with easy access to transportation, this hotel is hard to beat. Glad we chose it. Now it's time for bed to sleep off the jet lag.

Ciao,

We booked this last minute and got a great deal. It's walkable from Termini, but easier to take the metro to the nearby stop.

Great service (people at the front are extremely helpful), very clean, funky decor. Good breakfast (free espresso!) and feels safe due to the armed guards outside the nearby government buildings. We booked the triple, which was very large and even had a little courtyard.

I guess the only (minor) annoyance was that the bathroom has a tub with a handheld shower head, but nothing to hold it, so you have to hold the shower head in one hand while trying to soap up with the other. Not a huge deal.

Free internet on a computer in the lobby.

My wife and I stayed in the Artdeco over a weekend stay in Rome. We selected the hotel primarily due to its location and the good price offered. The hotel is situated relatively near the Termini train station, but not too close to be affected by the unpleasant aspects associated with every major European train station. Safety in the area is definitely not an issue, as there are several embassies nearby, and you can see their armed guards from the hotel.

The hotel is found in a very quiet side street, very close to a metro station (line B), which can take you to Circo Massimo. They don't offer parking, but we found a spot without too much trouble. Remember though: blue lines mean a pay spot, white lines mean free parking. There is a parking garage that the hotel works with, but they charge 30 Euros per night and they close at 0100.

The hotel is an older building with early 20th century styling, but has been wholly modernized. Rooms have a retro look, as in their website, but our room was significantly less spacious than what I had expected. Having said that, it was sufficiently sized and not too small. What was too small was the elevator going to the fifth floor. My wife and I had trouble fitting in there with two small suitcases.

Service was also quite helpful. In asking for directions, restaurant recommendations, etc. they were great! Wireless internet is provided for free.

All in all, this is a good hotel, which provides good value for money.

We stayed at the Art Deco for four days, and we would have been happy to stay for much longer. It's very clean, the room was a good size, and the staff looked after us very well. I liked the way that room was tidied twice a day, and we had chocolates left in the room every afternoon.
The hotel is in a great location, close to the Termini and with easy access to anywhere in the city that you want to go. Breakfast was good, we ate dinner there twice, and were not disappointed at all.
When we go back to Rome we will stay at the Art Deco again.

Can't believe the last review stating that it was in a poor location!!! 5 mins maximum walk from the termini, turn left out of the hotel then left at the top of the road and 15-20mins pleasant stroll later you are in Republicca, walk through termini and out the other side, 5 mins later you are at the one of the most beautiful churches you will ever see. Five minutes on the underground from termini and you can either be at the Colisseum or the Vatican........you get my drift?

Hotel room itself was basic but I didn't go to Rome to sit in my room, breakfast was standard fare, front desk staff were excellent and couldn't have been more helpful, the guy that was on shift when we arrived took the time to point out the important areas on a free street guide. We asked for a decent local restaurant and were directed round the corner to a little place called "La Famiglia"(sp), which was so good we didn't eat anywhere else during our stay, but drink the house wine rather than the more expensive bottles as it is really quite good.

Sex cinema and strip club round the corner but no trouble or undesirables hanging around which could have been to do with the soldiers on the street corners (some embassies in the area) or the close by police station.

Basically an upmarket basic hotel which probably isn't four star but for location and friendliness of staff is just what you need if you are going to be out and about sightseeing as we were.
