I booked this hotel through hotelclub.net, so my price worked out to about $140 US per night. The rooms had modern electronic locks, and bathrooms were in great condition.
Breakfast seemed to be included for everybody, and the quality was satisfactory, with selection quite good.
The location is a 5 minute walk from Termini, and the subway less than that. This means that all tourist attractions are easily accessible.
There are many good restaurants nearby. The best one was recommended by the hotel and is a 3 minute walk. The second good one is just down 1 block from the hotel on the same side; Fulvimari. Avoid restaurant Smeraldo.
Internet is Swisscom, so expensive, but they didn't block Skype, so we phoned home for free.

Stayed in this hotel for 5 nights (pre-paid and chosen by Tour Operator) - at first glance hotel was decent and very good location near Termini, walking distance to major streets and sites- but upon checking in we were greeted by rude and unhelpful reception desk. Maybe because we were a large tour group?? DO NOT be billeted at the 1st floor-rooms not well maintained - musky rooms and toilet- no individual safes and NO REFRIGERATOR! FOUR STARS THEY SAY?? Reception personnel very biased as polite and helpful with Caucasians but being an Asian they were very impatient and unhelpful. They only "softened up" when our tour leader threatened to report their behaviour to management. The good thing is they agreed to our changing rooms to one that has a refrigerator and we were pleasantly surprised to see a large well lit room but when the outside temperature got cooler without warning they turned off the air conditioning and room became so hot we had to open the windows When we complained they told us "no aircon cos not working - something wrong with airconditioning" - ya right!!! When we reported that our telephone in the room was not working they did not take our word for it until we saw a filipino staff-Raul-who checked and changed it immediately as it was defective.

We picked this hotel because it was near the train station. We used BW points, so I'm not sure exactly how much the hotel costs. It was very nice, clean, roomy (which you usually do not see in European hotels). The breakfast was very good with a very helpful staff. Our room was ready upon arrival at 10am which was a pleasant surprise.

I've just returned from staying at the Universo Hotel with my girlfriend, and felt I should post an honest review. Location excellent, 20 mins max from colleseum, 30 mins trevi fountain, in fact very close to all tourist sites, most of all 5 min walk from the train station (Termini stazione) where all buses lead to! In fact only took one bus and that was to the Vactican (but walked back) Hotel: Very clean and comfortable, worthy of it's star rating, staff were excellent, no need to buy a map just ask the staff they give you one and mark where to go and how to get there! Bar very nice and only 3 Euros for a beer (elsewhere varies from 5-10 euros) Breakfast was good with plenty of choice, and of excellent quality. The best thing about this hotel was the staff without a doubt, they really couldn't do enough for you.
The room was very modern,immaculate and had an excellent shower, well needed after walking round all day. Air con worked fine (leave at low speed for less noise)
Down side of the stay... getting the hang of the pedestrian crossings and of course coming home!
I'm not normally one to write reviews but definetly beleive this hotel is worth a stay in. (and worth the cost) dont miss out.
