Stayed here for 2 nights on a business trip. Location is quite good- bvery close to Termini (the main train station) on a nice enough street with other hotels. The staff were generally very nice and helpful other than 1 guy with glasses who worked at night- he was so bloody rude, arrougant and unhelpful. One the first night, the electricity went while i was in the shower- I rang down to reception and he said he's get a porter up- half an hour later, i rang again as no one had come, he told me that the porters were busy and someone would be up in half an hour! I ended up going out with my hair wet, no make up or anything as room was in darkness. The room was very small - not 4 star quality, but clean and done the job, The bed squeaked a ot and everytime I moved it hit off the headboard making a huge bang. Lifts took an waful long time, breakfast was good. The hotel advertises as having Turkish baths- I went down the first night,a nd it wasnt on.

Had a lovely stay at Universo. Location is perfect being around the corner from the main Termini (including both metro lines) and easy walk to Coliseum, ancient Rome, Spanish steps etc... Very nice room with lovely bathroom. Very clean. Friendly staff. Breakfast was fine but got a bit repetitive as we were there for 8 days. Only complaints would be that they would only issue one room card which was a pain when we wanted to do separate stuff and charging for Wifi. Would recommend highly.

We stayed at Universo six nights at Christmas time in twin room, and we did like it a lot. The staff was very polite and helpful.

Room was clean and nice looking with relatively new interior, yet a bit small. Bathroom was spacious and beautiful. The double bed was about average. Working A/C and openable window.

Breakfast was OK, but without vegetables (lettice, tomato, cucumber etc.).

Location was good enough: good connectios with any means of transport.

Negative point was the door lacking any sound isolation - but there was very little noise in the corridor, and no traffic noise at all. Internet connection was good, but expensive - as in anywhere in Rome.

My husband and I stayed at the Hotel Universo in November 2007. We had a pleasant experience at this hotel. It is located very close to the Termini which makes all of Rome very accessible using both the bus and the metro.

We arrived early in the morning after a terrible overnight train ride (as a result of the train strikes that were going on in France at that time, we were coming in from Paris), but were efficiently booked in and the staff actually checked us in a little earlier than the usual check in time.

We had read review that the staff were rude at this hotel, but we saw no such thing. I wouldn't say they were friendly, but they were efficient enough.

We were happy with our room. The room was spacious, as well as the bathroom. The breakfast buffet was decent, nothing spectacular.

There is an internet cafe/money exchange place right opposite the hotel. Also if you walk out of the hotel doors, turn left, and turn another left and walk down about half a kilometer, you will find a department store. A tip, shop around for a good exchange rate for dollars if you are travelling from the USA, as we found different rates at different places. The worst place for money exchange are the touristy areas where they literally fleece you!!!
