My husband and I stayed at the Hotel Universo in November 2007. We had a pleasant experience at this hotel. It is located very close to the Termini which makes all of Rome very accessible using both the bus and the metro.

We arrived early in the morning after a terrible overnight train ride (as a result of the train strikes that were going on in France at that time, we were coming in from Paris), but were efficiently booked in and the staff actually checked us in a little earlier than the usual check in time.

We had read review that the staff were rude at this hotel, but we saw no such thing. I wouldn't say they were friendly, but they were efficient enough.

We were happy with our room. The room was spacious, as well as the bathroom. The breakfast buffet was decent, nothing spectacular.

There is an internet cafe/money exchange place right opposite the hotel. Also if you walk out of the hotel doors, turn left, and turn another left and walk down about half a kilometer, you will find a department store. A tip, shop around for a good exchange rate for dollars if you are travelling from the USA, as we found different rates at different places. The worst place for money exchange are the touristy areas where they literally fleece you!!!

the hotel is ideally located, 5 minutes from the trainstation. the rooms are equipped very beautiful and modern. Breakfast was ok. the staff is helpful - we could easily switch the room (air conditioning didn't always work). finally, i would go again.

We had to wait for abaut 40 minutes for the room, because they culdn't fine our resevation, which was made 3 months in advance. The room was too small and to close to the elevator that had a terrible sound. Things disappear from the room and no body take any responsibillity.

We were very encouraged when we stepped into the hotel. We thought it would be a comfortable place to stay. We wouldn't say that now.

Mario at the front desk was the rudest man we encountered in our 11 day vacation. Seems he thought we were there to make him happy!

Bed was nice and comfortable. Room was a reasonable size. Bathroom was beautiful until you tried to use it. The shower leaked ALL over the tile floor making it unsafe to walk on or to use any electrical appliance (hair dryer!)

A/C was available from 3 pm to 9 pm. Made the room at least bareable for going to sleep although you got hot in the early morning hours. When they advertise, they do not advertise that AC is only available at certain times....

Breakfast was NOT GOOD. First morning eggs were watery....I mean....
REALLY watery - like they were not even cooked. One morning, the milk was soured and they didn't seem in a big hurry to change it for us. Very inconsistent. One morning we had fresh fruit - not sure what happened after that. The Japanese tourists at this hotel seem to dominate when the food came out.....it would be gone in a flash.

Not a great location unless you are planning on using the train termini a lot. VERY long walks to the center attractions.

Would not stay here again although it was very clean.
