“A perfect stay in Rome - fantastic location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 24, 2013 via mobile

We stayed for 4 nights in March. Overall was a great stay.
Location: just 3 blocks from Termini and walking distance from major landmarks. Variety of restaurants nearby and lots of transportation available.
Rooms: big, clean and modern, upgraded not long ago it seemed. Big bed and bathroom but the Tv had few channels and the remote was awful. Walls seemed too thin, we could hear the room next door at night. The hairdryer didn't work properly and never was fixed although we requested it twice.
Breakfast: a huge variety of breads, pastries, ham and cheese, nutella and other things. Very good indeed. But, waiters seemed to comment on people which was kind of rude if you notice and understand italian.

Also, elevators were too small and too slow for the amount of people in the hotel. It was a typical huge city hotel were you didn't feel like at home but treated as any other guest.

Stayed here for recent Wales Italy rugby game in February hotel is in good location and staff friendly enough breakfast was really good with s lot of choice only 2 bad pints really when we checked in they would not accept that we had already paid and it took a while to sort the other wad the heat in the rooms which considering it was February was really uncomfortable after speaking to staff at reception they explained they were not allowed to turn on air con sure to Rome regulation so to Geta decent night sleep you needed to leave the window open all day not ideal but not really hotels fault either. One plus point we had an issue with tv remote we reported it and it was sorted straight away. Overall really good hotel

This hotel is a short walk from the Termini on a quiet side street. Check-in was quick and efficient. My room was compact, modern and very clean with a balcony overlooking the street. It was fine if you do not plan to spend too much time in your room - why would you in Rome! Breakfast was buffet style with a good selection available. There also is free Wi-Fi throughout the hotel and a small business centre with printer which was useful to check-in my flight home.

The hotel was easy to find and close to the Termini station, making it hassle-free when you arrive in Rome. The reception staff were very friendly and informative on arrival and our room was modern and comfortable, unusually designed on a split level basis. The bathroom and wardrobes etc were downstairs and you accessed the bedroom via a staircase within the room. The bed was really comfortable and I would rate the room very highly. It also contained a minibar and tea-making facilities could be requested from the bar area on the ground floor. A safe was available free of charge at reception and there was a 50 euro deposit but you got that back on departure. The safe was kept under further lock and key behind reception.

The breakfasts were excellent. Fresh fruit, cheese, ham, cereals, bread with jam/marmelade etc, toast, scrambled eggs, sausages and bacon (there were too many choices to list here!). We also went in the bar one evening for a few drinks and although it was quiet, it was very pleasant and the barman was friendly.

The standard of the hotel was excellent and well positioned to visit the Forum and Colosseum (about a 15 to 20 minute walk). Cut across the city in another direction and you were at the Trevi, Pantheon etc in about the same period of time. As we were not in a hurry and like to walk, we walked over to the vatican visiting a number of sights on our way, but this was a long walk. You would be better getting the metro if you did not have a lot of time to spare.

All in all we had a really memorable stay in Rome at a nice hotel and we are planning a further visit next year as the city is so vast you don't get to see everything. I will be booking this hotel again when I do return, so I can't give a better recommendation than that. Just like to say thanks to all the staff at the Universo for such a pleasant stay!

3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 6, 2013

Me and my Fiancee stayed at the hotel for 3 nights for my 30th birthday at the start of March 2013. I will start by saying just how fantastic a city Rome is, i cant recommend visiting higher!

As for the hotel, the best thing about it is the location. Its only a five minutes walk from the Termini train station, so you can just wheel your luggage rather than grab a taxi. The hotel has large signposts on it, so finding it is not a problem at all. It is surrounded by restaurants, gift shops and is in a great location to explore the Rome sights by foot. It was possible to walk to the all the sights ie the collessum. The vatican was a short tube journey away.

The rooms on first glance are very well presented, clean and comfortable. We had a room on the 7th floor so had to use the lift. The room had a balcony and we had the door open all 3 nights, and the noise from the road wasnt bad at all. The walls are quite thin, we could hear our neighbours having showers and flushing the toilet. The double bed was comfortable but was two singles pushed together, though they did not seperate easily. The matteresses were memory foam and were very hard. i woke up with a dead arm several times. The room did not have an iron, a kettle or a safety deposit box. Though you could get a safety deposit box behind the reception front desk. The bathroom was very clean, the shower did spray under the glass door and wet the bathroom floor a bit. The house keeping team never bothered us and had our room spotless everytime we went to breakfast.

The breakfast room was where we felt most put out. The staff were very unfriendly, they only said hello/goodbye when spoken to. They would constantly tidy your table or fill up condaments while you were sat talking. The breakfast itself was ok but very simple. my fiancee, who is a departmental hotel manager noticed a guest be ignored when that guest requested an expresso by a young girl on Monday morning also the waiters seemed uninterested in adding value to guests stay. The food was average therefore this was the plus side of the breakfast experience.

Overall the hotel was decent value and in a good location. I wouldnt have a problem staying again but i do suggest they look at the customer interaction standards as my fiancee emailed ahead detailed that it was my birthday and we had gotton engaged, the hotel promptly replyed informing they would allocate a nice room which we did appericiate however it would be an idea for the hotel to incorporate information such as this into the welcome of their guests this would improve their pre arrival planning.

All in all we had a fantastic trip and would recommend this hotel.

We stayed at this Best Western for 5 nights and thought it was excellent, very clean, good size room for Europe, great breakfast and great gym facility. Termini Station just a short walk away and location was easy walk for almost all of the major sights of Rome. Vatica was easy metro ride.

Room Tip: There were 3 great restaurants within 2 blocks that were exellent and very reasonable, about 25 Euro...
