“Absolutely perfect location, room slightly disappointing”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 27, 2014

The first, second and third things going for the Albergo Cesari are location, location and location. On a scale of 1 to 5, I would give it a 10. About 300 meters from the Pantheon which is probably my favorite site in Rome, 50 meters from Via del Corso, cross it and Fontana di Trevi awaits a couple of minutes walk ahead. Almost everything is walking distance in Rome and this hotel is at the center of it all.

The guys at reception are nice, friendly and helpful, gave us all the information we needed and arranged transportation at reasonable rates.

Breakfast is fairly good and splendidly located on the roof. I would skip the paid extras, they are not worth it. The hotel is surrounded by restaurants, of which two were especially good: Hostaria De Pastini (as you walk towards the Pantheon) and Pizza Zaza (just beyond it).

We opted for a 'Classic Room' which is about 30% more expensive but more spacious than the standard rooms. It was indeed spacious, with in-room safe, a reasonable bathroom and good view to the piazza, but otherwise nothing to be excited about, as the old style furniture are, at the end of the day, just old. We didn't get the chance to take a look at the standard rooms, and I'm wondering if the upgrade was really necessary given the fact that we were out all day every day as could be expected when visiting such a great city.

Dear BG007,
Thanks a lot for your review and for give us “10, on a scale of 1 to 5”.
We are very lucky to stay in the historical centre of Rome, just near the Pantheon that is one of the most beautiful place in the world, with the height to the oculus and the diameter of the interior circle that are the same!
A lot of competitors envy us for our Receptionists and all the Staff, very professional people who live and know Rome very well and try to instill their knowledge.
Our roof terrace is a special place where have a good and rich buffet breakfast in the morning. You can taste: espresso/american coffee, cappuccino, fruit juice, various taste of tea, fresh fruit, salad fruit, muesli, yogurt, cheeses, parmigiano, ham, different kind of bread, pizza, marmelade, jams, honey, cakes and so on. In the evening, you can sip a drink regarding Roman roof tops.
Just around us a lot of restaurants, trattorie, cafés and places where you can taste what you want.
The hotel has two type of rooms classic and standard, bookable on our official webpage. All rooms have private bathroom, with hairdryer, shower gel/shampoo, soap and tissues and they have the double glazing on the windows to avoid outside noise. The Classic room are in old stay furniture, as mentioned and a lot of people does not like it, but prefer a modern furniture. So it is better to book standard rooms, maybe directly on our official website…

5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 22, 2014

Arrived late Sunday night. Tomasso on reception. Great bloke...friendly, helpful & informative. Drew on maps his tips for walking routes to see major sites including secret ones ie: obscure churches with famous paintings.. Speaks great English too. All the staff were great & friendly (lots of buon giornos). Reception gave us as many maps as we wanted and ideas for good food off the beaten track. There are 2 reataurants in the square the hotel is next to. Both lovely...but make sure you get the directions to Francesco's by Piazza Navona as well.
The Albergo is right in the centre of Old Rome so close to everything eg: Trevi Fountain 2 mins... Pantheon 4 mins.. Super location...Even Vatican City only 35 mins... Of course it takes longer because everywhere you look (up, down, around, inside & out), every corner you turn, every church you go into just includes more magnificence...
Great room over the street. Room was warm so with window open you get street noise (which I love) the road does not have cars but close window for total silence and shutters for darkness. Outside to the left is one of Rome's many drinking fountains...I just went down each morning to fill up plastic bottles (loved doing that). The room had tea making facilities & a fridge. Bathroom spacious...plenty of hot water. The building is 1500 years old and has been a family run hotel for over 200 years so it does feel dated but that adds to the charm. Breakfast on the roof terrace is fabulous...7 'til 10 am, so no pressure to dash. Cappucino inc...bread, ham, cheese, eggs, juice, croissants, cereal etc...loads of it too. We didn't need to eat again until the evenings. Room was cleaned/tidied every day. Fresh towels everyday if wanted.
On our last full day we took the train to Assisi. That day will stay with me forever.
The Albergo ask for checkout by 10am..we didn't leave ours until 11..no problem. Leaving luggage with reception to sight-see favourites as flight not until 4 was no trouble.
January: Weatherwise..not cold, 3 days of sun, one rainy = Vatican day. Siteswise: No queues. Sistine Chapel not packed. St. Peter's cupola only 7 people up there. Great time to go for us. No hassle from pickpockets etc...we used the Metro too. Just kept our wits about us. Driving is mental in Rome...I would never, ever do it. Took a couple of taxis..an experience for sure. Only use the official white taxis...the drivers don't expect a tip but we did. Within Rome it is tariff 1.
Amazing city...great break helped enormously by the location & staff of the Albergo Cesari.
Recommended...thank you.

Perfectly located hotel inbetween Pantheon & Trevi Fountain and also the main Via de Corso strip for catching buses etc to the main tourist spots and the sights, all just a very short walk.

The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful, the buffet breakfast was excellent plentiful with a very good choice of meats, pastries, fresh fruit, cereals, juices, yoghurts and located on the roof top terrace which was lovely.

Our room could of done with updating decor wise but this is only a tiny fault and the room was a very good size as was the bathroom. We would recommend this hotel and we would definately stay here again

Dear Bubblybrunette12,
Thank for writing your nice review as soon as go back home and for choosing our hotel for your stay in Rome.
Our location is really great, just in a midway of the Pantheon and Trevi fountain that you loved so much! A few steps from us you reach the incredible Rococò Place Saint-Ignace that has an unusuale triangular shape, sourronded by buildings with concave façade and balconies with iron railings.
The Albergo Cesàri has a very professional Staff who aim to satisfy Guests’ desires, starting from the cleanliness, then offer a rich and delicious buffet breakfast and ending to serve – in the evening - a glass of wine at “La terrazza del Cesàri”, our trendy rooftop.
Our rooms standard or classic, all with private bathroom with hairdryer, bath and/or shower, courtesy kit and all with soundproof windows, air conditioning, minibar, safe, satellite TV, direct dial phone and Wi-Fi free.
The Staff and I waiting for your next stay with us: book directly on our official website, with one of our great special offer.

Wonderful hotel in the city center..location near most attractions really minimizes transit time and expense as you can walk to most sights. The staff is friendly, attentive, and multilingual, and really make an effort to satisfy needs. The terrace at night offers terrific scenery, and by day one can have a delicious breakfast in the same setting. The room was quite comfortable, and warm. Because of the unusual spike in the temperature outside during our stay (New Year's week), we had our windows open some of the time, and we did hear street noise at those times. I must say we enjoyed the opera we heard from the street singers. When the windows were closed, the room was very quiet..The room safe was very useful for those extras you do not want to leave lying about the room when you are out.
We felt very comfortable here, and we felt very safe, with lots of people out and about the area well into the evening..We will definitely plan to stay here on our next visit to Rome..this is a delightful place.

Dear 43KiKi34,
Thank you for your kind review about our hotel, its location and Staff!
The location is one of our most important value, just in the historical Roman centre, a few steps from the most important places such as the Pantheon (inside the tomb of Raffaello Sanzio), the Trevi fountain, Piazza Navona and Spanish Steps. On our official website it is possible to see our location and our special offer, too.
A particular credit of our success is due to our professional Staff, well selected for talents, sensitivity and knowledge. All of them are, as you wrote, friendly and attentive for all Guests needs, starting from the early morning during the buffet breakfast until the evening at the terrace where have a special cocktail (in February it is possible to taste “the sidecar”: Stravecchio Magnamater, Cointreau and lemon juice).
The Albergo Cesàri has 48 rooms, including 10 Classic, decorated with attention to detail, according to the highest European standards. All the rooms have parquet floor, private bathroom with shower, air conditioning, DSL/Wi-Fi free of charge, satellite TV, direct dial phone, minibar, safe (that you appreciated!) and soundproof window that avoid the street noise.
I’m happy you loved the street singers, who sometimes pass by the street under the hotel. Some of them are really picturesque…
Rome is great town, but it is still possible to feel very safe, also because in this area there are always a lot of people, Roman, tourists or businessmen.
All the Staff and I wish to welcome you very soon.

As far as location: this hotel was great. We never took public transit. We walked everywhere, even in the rain and cold. There are lots of shops and restaurants nearby. Very safe area.

Tomasso and Bernardo at the front desk were extremely nice. They were very helpful when answering our questions.

Breakfast was great, probably our best in Italy. Cold cuts, cheese, croissants and toast, cereals, fruit, and brewed coffee. I'm sure eating on the rooftop terrace is wonderful in the warmer months.

The room itself was clean. Even though our room was over the main street, we didn't have any issue with noise. But I image it could be an issue if your windows are open in warm weather. The hotel wasn't fully booked when we were there, so I can't really comment on noise from other rooms. The walls seemed pretty thin, though.

My one issue was the bathroom. It was in need of a facelift, but that wasn't the problem, it was the mold in the shower... good size patches at the bottom of the wall and spores behind the sliding shower doors. When we mentioned this to the older gentleman at the front desk, he didn't seem too concerned. He didn't even apologize. He just said "okay". I didn't like that too much.

I'd have to consider whether to stay here again. The location was perfect and we didn't pay too much for our room (90 Euro/night ), but cleanliness is important to me.

Dear Ereioi,
I wish to thank you very much for your kind review on the Albergo Cesàri, that has a lot of qualities, as the location: great as you wrote. So good, that it is possible to reach the most important places without using public transport, even if they are just near of us!
Service and cleanliness are the most important things for us. I noticed that our Receptionist Tommaso and Berardo satisfied your expectation, with their professionalism and helpful. And reading your review I suppose that the same is for our buffet breakfast on the rooftop and the room with our soundproof windows that avoid street noise. In warm weather you do not need to open the window, as there is air conditioning.
The problem is the bathroom, or better the mold in the shower, as you wrote. Maintenance works have been made, but unfortunately happen that Guest arrives before the maintenance. I apologize for the inconvenience and I thank you for advise urgently our Receptionist, who planned an urgent check/intervention in your room.
I hope to welcome you very soon and within all the Staff, I suggest to book for your next stay with us, one of our special offer directly on our official website.
Sincerely,
Mrs Cinzia Farias

This small hotel is perfectly located just off the Via Corso on the Via di Pietra. We were traveling with our family for Christmas, so had two adjacent rooms which were very clean, spacious enough with nicely appointed bathrooms. (Just be careful getting in and out of folding door of shower, don't turn on the water until AFTER you get in, because very easy to hit the water faucet, changing the temp of the water very quickly!) An excellent breakfast was served in the very attractive rooftop restaurant, with good coffee, bread, pastries, fruit, cereal, yogurt and cheeses. We also enjoyed sitting upstairs on the roof in the evening after a long day of sightseeing and exploring Rome. The space heaters made it charming and cozy. The staff is very friendly and helpful, willing to assist in any way. In fact, our granddaughter left her precious stuffed animal at the hotel when we checked out. When we called the front desk, they retrieved it immediately, offering to drive it to the airport! A wonderful gesture, but we requested they mail
it and the precious package arrived at our family's home in France the following week! Amazing response! The location is perfect, very close to the Pantheon, Piazza Navona, and Campo dei Fiori and across the Via Corso from the Trevi Fountain. Just a nice walk in one direction to Victor Emmanuel Monument, the Colosseum, and the Roman Forum. In the other direction, a 30-minute walk to Vatican City or up the Via Corso to the Spanish Steps and major shopping streets of Via Condotti, Via Borgognona and Via Frattina. There are many restaurants close by and only about three blocks from the famous gelateria, Giolliti, which we enjoyed twice for the best and most beautiful gelato we ever had. Highly recommend this hotel for location, service and staff!

Room Tip: Keep the shutters closed to block out street noise. This is a city and people and vehicles move aro...

Dear Lynda13,
Thank you very much for your review, so kind and detailed!
As you well write, the Albergo Cesàri is located just in the heart of historical centre of Rome, in a midway between the Pantheon and Trevi fountain, not far away from the Colisseum and Spanish Steps. If you like shopping, a 10 minutes walking you reach the most famous fashion streets in Rome: Via Condotti, Via Frattina and Via Borgognona. Not less important, Via del Tritone, Via del Corso, Via Nazionale and Campo de’ fiori. The same is for restaurants, cafès and great gelaterie!
A lot of our Guests book directly at our official website asking for up of two rooms, as they are a family or a party. And our Staff is very pleased to accommodate them in rooms near each other, as we have not adjoining rooms. As you talk about our shower/water, we take the occasion to inform you that we are very proud to say that we are the winner of “Green hotel”, and we appreciated very much all people that take care of the planet.
And don’t worry if you forget something: we will send it by air mail asap!
We hope to welcome you next Christmas.

This hotel is in a great location. You can literally walk to every major attraction (other than the Vatican). The staff is very friendly and will help you navigate the city. Be sure to download the trip advisor app on your smart phone and the Rome map. No cellular is required and it gives you all the reviews plus navigation. In town for only 48 hours and we did everything from this hotel. The breakfast is one of the best we have had while traveling, the roof bar is great to visit at night, you never know who you will run into! Even famous people:) We will defiantly stay here again.

Room Tip: Its Rome, get out of your room! Sleep when you return home!

Dear Chris C,
Thank you very much for your nice review on TA, where highlight our great location just in the historical centre of Rome, not far away from the Trevi fountain, the Pantheon, Piazza Venezia and so on.
That is important for “short stay” like yours was: only 48h to discover the Caput Mundi! …and if you book directly on our official website you should have a special offer, too. Get in touch with our Reception, who will be pleased to help you.
The Albergo Cesàri offres a rich and genuine buffet breakfast that gives a good start of the new day. La terrazza del Cesàri, in the evening, is one of the most beautiful and relaxing lounge bar in Rome: come to sip a cocktail. We wait you very soon.
