I spent 4 nights at the St. Regis in June 2006 and overall it was a very pleasant experience. The rooms were beautiful and quiet, although small, the bathrooms were first class (including size, furnishings and ameneties), the beds were very comfortable, and the gym was very good (it even had free bottled water, a fruit basket and towels). The lobby and the public rooms on the first floor are spectacular. The location is OK, but not great - it's about 2 long blocks from the train station and a good 15-25 minute walk from shopping and sight-seeing (Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain). The people on the front desk were fluent in English and generally helpful. On the negative side: The concierge sent us to a restaurant that was way too expensive for the quality (i.e., tourist trap). The air-conditioning in our first room was inadequate and we had to change rooms (which they did without quibbling). I would not call the St. Regis Rome one of the world's great hotels, but it is a most enjoyable place to spend a few days.
