“Great Location for Travel & Sightseeing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 30, 2014

Hotel Morgana is ideally situated for travel by air or rail with the train station (Stazione Termini) being only a three minutes walk on level ground from the hotel. It is also an excellent location being very central to all the major sightseeing attractions which are within easy walking distance.
The staff were all very friendly, professional and helpful. The cosy room was large considering the rate and location. Décor was a little dated but the bedroom and bathroom was pleasantly comfortable, clean and more than practical as a touring base. The buffet breakfast was good with plenty of choice and well worth including in the room rate, especially if you plan to do a lot of calorie consuming walking around the city, which is on many levels requiring a good pair of cushioned shoes to cope with the cobblestones and countless mountainous ascending and descending flights of steps.
There is no in-house restaurant, but the choice within a few minutes stroll provides another opportunity to explore. I would call Morgana an upscale hotel style Bead and Breakfast rather than a Hotel, but nonetheless this was perfect for our purpose as most of the time in Rome you are away from your hotel taking in the wonders of a bygone empire. I will definitely stay at Hotel Morgana the next time I am in Rome.

Room Tip: I only stayed in 3rd floor twin room overlooking the street and it was January so there were not too...

You can't beat Hotel Morgana for a convenient, well-appointed hotel for a Rome city break! My wife and I enjoyed our 2-night stay very much and the staff were absolutely wonderful.
LOCATION
The hotel location is absolutely perfect for those coming in by rail from the airport as it is less than 5 minutes' walk. Use the side exit from Termini (near the ticket office) for an even quicker journey. This is also good for leaving your bags at the hotel after check-out so that you can make the most of your last day unencumbered. The hotel staff were only too glad to do this.
AMENITIES
The hotel is quite small and can seem cramped. The lifts are tiny and not for the claustrophobic! Yet everything is done so nicely. The entry lounge was stocked with croissants and pastries with complementary coffee. Our breakfast was included and the dining room was comfortable. A great continental buffet selection was on offer including waiter service for coffee and the most wonderful kitchen-baked pastries. Wi-Fi was patchy in the room but in the reception area and lounge it worked well.
ROOM
Possibly a notch down from 4-star and a tad tired but very comfortable. The 5th floor (top) was very quiet. The double bed was great. Bathroom was good but slight clog in the drain of the shower - nothing major. There was a bit of a drain smell in the bathroom on the second night but nothing too unobjectionable. All-in-all a great room. No coffee maker but there was a safe.
STAFF
Top-notch. All the staff were so very helpful and spoke English very well. They helped us sort out our visit to the Capuchin Crypt and were only too willing to print things off if you sent them an email. Fantastic!
Definitely consider this hotel for your Rome city break. We were glad we did!

Room Tip: Top floor in the back was very quiet

We landed in Rome by Al Italia, which seems to be the only airline with direct flight from NYC. We were thinking about pre-booking the cab, but at the end we just hailed one at the airport. The price was the same 55 euros, but the cab also had another couple with us and it took a bit longer to get to our hotel.

I must admit that first encounter was not what I was hoping for... How many of you experienced that final stage of long intercontinental trip when you finally arrive at your destination and after your kids were getting really tired and car sick and their first words were - daddy, this place stinks! OMG...

Luckily for us, from that moment on, everything, well almost everything, other than my wife falling while walking down the slippery stairs, since elevators were frequently busy, was going to get a lot better.

First impression was really not that great, but quickly you'll realize that space is at premium in Rome and once that is taken into account, second impression gets a lot better.

We booked family deluxe room, which is really two interconnected rooms with the small hall in between which also can be closed and locked, so that you can leave room doors open and not risking being exposed to people passing by. Again, it's not spacious by any standard, but it is big enough to spend a week in Rome when most of the time you should be really spending out and enjoying this beautiful city.

The room that we got had an AC fan that was really loud and I mentioned that to the bell boy who helped us with the luggage. To my (pleasant) surprise we got a call from receptionist (all business, but awesome Marisa) not long after with an offer to check out couple other alternatives. That included two rooms in their new addition not far from main building and another similar room in the same one.

I liked the new building better, but I was overruled by the rest of my family, mostly due to these reasons: rooms were right across each other, but not interconnected, the breakfast was served in a main building and also my wife and daughter really liked the "classic" look of the rooms in old building much more - go figure :-)

The other option in the same building was similar room, but even smaller, so we decided to stick with the original one, hoping that noise won't prevent us from getting good rest after the long trip. In the end the very next day the AC fan got fixed anyway.

This hotel also includes the breakfast which is open till 11am and it was very decent and much better than ordinary "continental" breakfast with wide variety of food including really excellent cappuccinos.

From bellboys to waiters, receptionists, etc, every single person we were dealing with was more than just helpful and they always went above and beyond what would be normally expected from them. It was indeed unique experience in that sense.

All in all the service was really great throughout our week long stay there and while it is certainly big part due to the hotel management and its staff it also shows what influence Trip Advisor has and it is truly remarkable that a lot of those extra efforts that hotels are doing these days come from the understanding that in the long run they will be rewarded through better reviews and ultimately more customers. Either way, we really enjoyed our stay there and we would easily recommend it to others as well.

Some useful tips:
- if you plan to use credit cards make sure you have pin number for them as well, as in many places it will be required (subway, train stations, etc).
- Be very careful while using stairs in this hotel - it's very easy to slip
- Really excellent fast trains perfect for day trips to Florence or Pompeii. it takes less than hour and half to get to either place with them.
- There are two railway companies. One serves from Roma Termini (www.trenitalia.com) and another from Tiburtino station (www.italotreno.it). We were really close to Termini and ended up using that one for our day trips, but it is easy to take short ride with the subway and use the other one if suits you better for any reason. You can buy tickets at the station, but if you book them in advance online, you'll be able to find better deals.
- Gelato - almost every place we had gelato was great, so it seems really hard to find a bad one. Just a couple of good ones:
Della Palma (www.dellapalma.it) was the one right near Pantheon and it had the greatest selection.
San Crispino (www.ilgelatodisancrispino.it) seems to be a small chain, and they have few locations. They are not so much into variety as much into fine tuning the taste, so it's probably best enjoyed when you are not in a hurry.
- Don't miss Trastevere.
- You might also like St Paul's cupola climb and view.
- Similarly Florence's cathedral dome and tower views.
- Reserve in advance museum visits in Florence.

Stayed in Hotel Morgana in November 2013, location was good, near to Termini Station. We bought 48 hour Bus Sightseeing pass which was really great and the terminus for all the buses was a short walk from the hotel. We had an executive room which was lovely, modern, clean, nice bathroom and quiet. Bed was very comfy. I thought from a location perspective it was easy to get around Rome from the hotel and there was plenty of nice Restaurants locally. Breakfast is good and the staff are very helpful and welcoming. The only oddity would be the very small and slow lift, but it was more of an amusement rather than an annoyance.

We stayed at the Hotel Morgana in Rome very close to Termini Railway Station. The area is not the best but I did not feel threatened by it. Lots of Hotels and Restaurents to suit all tastes and budgets.

The Hotel staff were very courteous and helpful and all spoke good English. The room we had was an executive room and was very clean and comfortable. There was no free tea and coffee making facilities but at a cost of 2.50 Euro's per person per day you were given a kettle and all the makings. Also be aware that there is a local tax of 3 Euro's per person per night to pay additional to the room rate. The breakfast buffet in the morning from 06.00 until 10.30 was excellent and the staff very cheerful and helpful. No restaurant within the hotel which meant eating out every night but the restaurants recommended by the reception desk were excellent and average priced for Rome.

Room Tip: Pick a room that overlooks the courtyard it is quieter. Also executive rooms are larger.

We stayed at the Hotel Morgana in November 2013 .On arrival we were greeted warmly at reception and dinner was arranged for us at a restaurant near by .We were helped with our luggage , us in one lift our luggage in the other. There is one goods lift and one lift for passengers . it was very snug in the passenger one so we preferred to walk up the stairs. Our room was also rather snug as was the bathroom a larger person would probably struggle to use the shower and changing in the bathroom was not possible ,even for an average size person. The rooms however were comfortable the beds were good and the view over the court yard was typically Italian which we loved. Breakfast was excellent with a huge selection of everything and the staff were attentive . The hotel reception provided maps and information and always a cheerful greeting on our way in or out. We also used the taxi service to the airport offered by the hotel which was punctual and efficient. We loved this hotel !the staff were always happy to help .The rooms were small , but as we didn't spend much time in our rooms it didn't spoil our stay.

Recently stayed here for a long weekend, was a very enjoyable stay, firstly when getting off the train at termini I was not expecting great things as its not the nicest looking part of Rome. But when I got to the hotel I was pleasantly surprised by how good the hotel was, how clean and new it looked and how helpful the staff were also. The rooms was also very nice with free WiFi. The breakfast was great loads of choice, I would definitely recommend the hotel. Also do not be put off by reviews on what termini is like it's perfectly safe as long as you have your wits about you also good location as its easy to get to all major sites via metro or buses.
