I stayed at this hotel for one evening at the end of October 2009, and had a nearly flawless experience.
First, let me mention all the pro's: the location of this hotel to the train that runs from the airport and the metro is incredible. It took me roughly 5-10 minutes to walk to the train that runs to the airport and only 5 seconds to reach the steps of the metro station. Sure, as some of the previous reviews have pointed out, it isn't in the most luxurious area of Rome... but, Rome has graffiti and broken beers bottle on side streets just like any major city in the world. Speaking as a frequent world traveler (over 40+ countries visited), I think this should be expected (it might go without saying, but some negative reviews, like the one below me from Kansas might not have been anywhere but Hawaii). I walked from the hotel back to the airport-train station at 5am in the pitch black, and didn't confront any uncomfortable situations. I also managed to hit some major attractions from this location... I took the train from the vicinity of the hotel to Bascilica di San Pietro/ Octaviano for 1 Euro, and saw the Vatican, Castle of Saint Angelo, Palazzo Pamphilj, Pantheon, and Coliseum (among other sites) on the walk back to the hotel, which took about 4-5 hours. The hotel staff helped in giving me great directions. From the moment I walked in the door, I was greeted with the utmost level of hospitality, and felt the family-like atmosphere I've always envisioned of Italian culture. I found the room to be quaint, with a very comfortable bed (topped with a robe and slippers), a nice bathroom, a view of the adjacent building (which was nice to me, as it gave an authentic, Italian feel), a little flat screen TV, small fridge, and a coffee machine/table, and so on. In the evening, a complimentary "wine-tasting and appetizer" experience was offered in the bar area for an hour (I believe this is done every Friday). Tons of the hotel gusts showed up, as well as the hotel manager - who gave a short speech about the hotel and wine. The "wine-tasting and appetizers" turned out to be very tasty, and lasted longer than advertised, with several glasses and appetizer trays being replenished. ('ve attached pictures from both the room and wine-tasting event). As for the complimentary breakfast buffet, I cannot comment as I had to leave the hotel for my flight before it started. There was also an elegant lounge with complimentary Wi-Fi and one computer for free internet use. The nearby streets offered some great bargains (tables with purses, clothing, etc), as well as a couple fairly inexpensive eateries.
The negatives are minute, if there are any: when I woke up at 5am, I could clearly hear other plumbing systems in the hotel sporadically going off…. but this didn’t interrupt my sleep. At the same time, considering that most of the architectural structures in Rome are quite old, this should probably be expected at most places. The price was a little high for the value, but this is mostly due to the devaluation of the US Dollar. I’m trying to think of any other negatives, but I cannot think of any more.
So, I’ll end my review here. I hope you find it useful, and wish you a splendid time in Rome: Paesi che vai, usanze che trovi... When in Rome, do as the Romans do... just be careful not to mistake Roman Catholicism as the Ancient Church.
