Room --> By European and/or Roman standards, the "superior double" room that we (me, my wife and our 7-year-old boy) booked, is one of the most generous in terms of free space, never felt "tight" while we were all together in the room, it was always a pleasure returning back to our base after a long day of walking and sightseeing. Big spacious bathroom with bathtub, not the usual claustrophobic shower cabins that an adult can barely stand in. In addition, our room was VERY quite, something that counts a lot when all you want is a good night's sleep in order to wake up in the morning fresh and ready for a new day in Rome (that was because the hotel rooms face the backyard, which is nothing more than some other building's back, but again, when travelling I gladly exchange the lack of view with a priceless serene night.

Staff --> EVERYBODY was very polite and ready to help whatever the problem/need was, very friendly, kind of a "family" atmosphere and at the same time very professional staff. The room was booked several months before and every little detail was taken care of exactly as promised in the initial emails that we exchanged with the hotel management (for example, the car that, when leaving, would carry as from the hotel to the Fumicino airport was fixed in February, when we booked the room, at a certain price for the morning of the 22nd of June and it was right there waiting for us!)

Location --> What can I say? The Metro station is at the doorstep of the hotel, we could not ask for anything more since we had only 3 days available to see as much of Rome as we could. Some previous reviewers mentioned that they spotted a few "suspicious" guys on the nearby area but, hey, we are talking about the metro of a big metropolis, it's no different than any other similar place. At no moment we felt uncomfortable or unsafe.
Another big plus was the fact that round the corner there were two trattorias (neighborhood restaurants) with very good food and extremely reasonable prices, a big advantage especially on Sundays when most of the downtown restaurants are closed.

Other --> Restaurant, bar (with small/light dinner) and a cozy leaving room with TV and an Internet spot were all operating/in order, just keep in mind that we are not talking about anything fancy or gourmet considering the food, it is just an effortless solution when you are too tired to get out and start looking for a restaurant.

All-in-all --> MUCH better than expected, great value for money, if I return to Rome I would definitely stay at the Napoleon again.

We stayed at Hotel Napoleon, Rome in March 2009. The hotel is centrally located, being a ten minute walk to the main train station (termini). There is a tram line that runs very close and the Colloseum is a short stroll in the other direction. Over the 7 nights we stayed, we had a daily buffet breakfast included in our taffif. The staff were very efficient and friendly. On our son's 10th birthday the hotel sent up a bottle of champagne for the adults and a bottle of coke for our son. On the Friday night, the hotel had wine and produce tastings from local areas of Italy. As this was the Friday night before the Rome marathon we got to meet other guests who were staying at the hotel and participating in the race.

We stopped in Rome for the first time for 2 nights after a cruise. From the booking, to the check-in and during the stay, the service was impeccable. Domenico, Roberto and Frank treated us as family. They told us our room would be ready early when we booked, and it was ready when we arrived at 11am. We spent a little more for the superior room, and it was worth it. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable. The breakfast was very good. And you just had to walk out the hotel and there was the entrance to the subway--one euro to the Vatican. Highly recommend this hotel if you are sight-seeing Rome. Joe & Michele, New Jersey, USA

On our first visit to Rome the Hotel Napoleon proved to be a most memorable and pleasant experience! The hotel management and staff were extremely friendly and helpful and in my opinion “First Class”!! Our double room was pleasantly larger than we had expected and very clean and quiet. We couldn’t have asked for a better breakfast that is included with your stay I might add and the dining room is spacious and beautiful. We had dinner at the Hotel one evening and the menu was superb! As this was our first visit to Rome we wanted to see all the sites and the location of the hotel was perfect for all our sight seeing adventures. Access to the underground Metro is literally right outside the front door of the hotel. If you prefer to walk the Colosseum and Roman Forum for example are an easy 20 – 25 minute walk from the hotel as well. We felt very safe walking around the area of the hotel even when we came in late at night. All in all I would say we couldn’t have had a better experience and would highly recommend the Hotel Napoleon to anyone looking for a truly wonderful Roma accommodation destination. Thank you again to the management and staff of the Hotel Napoleon…well done!!!

The hotel is all the things mentioned below. A great value in Rome and safe, clean and not too far from the action (close to the Metro).

But for the four of us (two couples) it was Roberto, the concierge, who made our Roman stay so very pleasant. He was helpful, sent us to good restaurants, handled shipping some gifts home for us (the only ones that have made it so far). He also paired us up with the Green Line Tour (GLT), one of the 'hop on/hop off' buses that hit all the tourist spots. Their service (GLT) was rerrible. They did not honor thier schedule and actually made us get off an hour early a good half mile from the hotel. When we shared this word with Roberto, he apologized and refunded our money immediatetly. Grazie!

Several folk have complained about the neighborhood where this hotel is, but we never felt threatened in any way. There was a fine OVS department store in the same building, a normal police presence, a nice park across the street. All in all, it was afine place to stay in Rome. Great value.
