“Great little hotel in excellent location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 13, 2012

We stayed here for my first trip to Rome and were really delighted with it! There are so many hotels in Rome to chose from and not knowing where they are in relation to all the sights it is quite hard to choose one. My husband and l settled on this one as it was a Relais du Chateau hotel and it seemed fairly central. We were delighted with our choice as it is right by the most lovely piazza and within walking distance of many of the wonderful must see locations. It is a small ivy clad hotel with a lovely roof terrace which you can have lunch, dinner or a drink on. The breakfast which is included is excellent with a large choice of hot and cold food. We were lucky with our room to have a little balcony to sit out on which was fun in the early evening and our bed was very comfortable. The staff were very helpful & altogether we had a thoroughly enjoyable stay .

Stayed for 3 nights in Sept 2012, location is excellent a 15 second walk to the Piazza Navona which makes it no more than a 20 minute walk (at a decent pace to Vatican admittedly) at most to the Coluseum, Forum, Vatican, Trevi etc. Same for all the shopping areas. Bit of a longer stroll up to the Borghese gardens which is a nice way to spend the afternoon.
Attractive building and hotel foyer, room was well presented and as described online, we didn't have a huge room but that wasn't a problem. Breakfast is excellent.
Reception staff helpful and welcoming, only request we had was to try and get a booking at Ad Hoc (at short notice) and they had indicated when we asked that it would probably be difficult. If you have your heart set on a particular restaurant (certainly the very good ones) you would probably be advised to book at the start of your trip or even before.
Didn't use the Gym...
Roof Terrace is nice and view is good, but smaller than I'd expected and didn't stop for a drink, just a quick look around.
All in all an excellent spot for a short visit to a great city. Soon as you walk back into the foyer you have your own calm and quiet place to recharge from the busy city for the next day.

We stayed here twice recently, in differing accommodations, and simply loved it. Having stayed before at the Intercontinental de la Ville, the Hotel d'Inghilterra, Ottocento and others, I have to say that this was my favorite. A top-notch hospitality staff greets you on your arrival, and throughout our stay we were treated royally. Kudos, people. Both rooms, one modern and one not, were excellent. Breakfast was excellent as well, and we are grateful to have found the Raphael. Better late than never, this is a classy and tranquil oasis in the center of the maelstrom of heat that is Rome in August, and we will not fail to stay here the next time we travel to Italy.

We are recently back from a 4 night stay at the Hotel Raphael and we were... underwhelmed ... by this hotel and their staff. We arrived from Positano where we had spent the prior 4 nights at a 4 star, but FAR superior, hotel. On check in we were VERY excited. The hotel is really beautiful. We had booked a superior room and were upgraded to a junior suite which was small but gorgeous. On the way out to explore we stopped at the front desk to ask the concierge to help us make some dinner reservations. That's where the problems began. This hotel has no concierge and their staff, who appeared to be competent, simply could not manage to secure a dinner reservation without some sort of drama....and this happened all 4 nights. I had researched restaurants so I knew where we wanted to go, all I needed was for them to make the phone call (since I don't speak Italian). Every single time they either forgot to make the call, or they forgot that they had done it, or they forgot to write it down....it was always something, and they managed to be snippy about it, each time. It was really weird. On the surface they were nice, but sorta condescending... We travel alot and had never seen anythng like this. They also seemed not to "like" the restaurants I had chosen (even though they were all heavily researched). I asked for their advice, but they couldn't speak intelligently about any of their choices. By the time we left, I was happy not to have to see them again. I hate that I can't leave a glowing review as I was so excited about this hotel but I wouldn't stay here again. That being said, there are certainly things we enjoyed. See the pros listed below.

Pros - Location, pretty room, great mattress, wonderful closet, Bulgari toiletries, good breakfast, rooftop terrace (but make a reservation)
Cons - Worn, pitiful looking carpet; no real concierge, condescending front desk staff, some rooms may be very small if ours was a junior suite

Me and my wife had a very good stay at Hotel Raphael. Our weekend trip was a big success. Great location, great service by a committed staff! Wifi could be better, tho. We're coming back for sure, next time we're in Rome.

Although this was the most expensive of the 5 hotels we stayed at while in Italy we believe it was worth every penny (euro). This was the BEST hotel I ever stayed at. The bi-level room, with a balcony, and large tub was luxurious. The bed was an adjustable tempur-pedic and spoiled us. The staff was very attentive and helpful going so far as to escort me to the ATM when I couldn't read the screen which was in Italian only. The location of the Hotel Raphael was ideal - so close to the Piazza Navona yet far enough away that it was extremely quiet. The rooftop dining was a treat with an incredible view and delicious food. The included breakfast was spectacular!

Room Tip: Face front street and get a balcony for quintessentially Italian evenings.

My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights of our honeymoon and absolutely loved it. We are pretty seasoned travelers and love discovering little gems like Hotel Raphael.

The hotel staff did a wonderful job making us feel welcome and helping us with dinner/lunch reservations and recommendations...especially since we were there in August, when a lot of the local non-touristy restaurants are shut down because the owners are on vacation. The rooftop terrace is lovely. The breakfast buffet was the best we had during our 2 week stay in Italy.

As a side note...a lot of people don't realize this, but the proprietor of the hotel is an avid art collector and the walls are lined with truly amazing pieces. There is a wall of Picasso plates as you enter the hotel that are stunning, and if you ask the hotel staff they will give you details on some more of the art.

The location speaks for itself. We walked everywhere! Piazza Navona, The Pantheon, Trevi Fountain, Piazza Venezia, you name it. I would stay here again in a heart beat.

Do yourself a favor and stay here.

Room Tip: We stayed in a Richard Meier Executive Deluxe Suite (304) and it was HUGE for a European hotel room...
