The Star Hotel Metropole was the first Hotel we stayed at on our 10-day tour of Italy. This was our first overseas trip.
Staff at the desk were helpful - we were the last of our group to arrive & the brief for our tour had already started. Check in was quick and desk staff directed us to meeting room after we checked into our room. The foyer was tastefully decorated with marble floors and staircases, timber cabinetary, well lit and some large comfortable leather couches in foyer. Door man at front welcoming guests and the entry was very clean and welcoming.
We had decided that before we left on our trip to be open minded about the quality of the hotel rooms on this tour as we were pre-warned that the star quality rating is different in Europe to Australia.. We were more than happy with our room, for us it was elegant, without being overly ornate or plush and way above our expectations. The room was spacious with a tasteful decor. Marble bathroom complete with shower and bath - small LCD tv in bathroom was a bonus. Lots of good lighting over sink. Air conditioning, bar fridge, good cupboard space and room safe.
Beautiful clean crisp bed linen along with large bath towels were changed daily. We were very impressed to be able to request a specific pillow as my husband requires good support after having surgery for neck problems and had not been able to bring his along for the trip.
No iron in room but laundering service available.
Breakfast was served in large dining room and was traditional American contintental including lots of fresh fruit, juices, a variety of cooked items plus the wonderful assortment of Italian cakes, crossaints and biscotti. Dining room staff were very friendly and always quick to serve guests with their preference of tea or coffee.
Location was good.Close proximity to Termini and train stations. We took the train to "Spanish Steps" and Trevi Fountain on our free day - easy to get around. The other sights of the Coloseeum and Vatican were with the group.
We ate out at a little restaurant a block away from the hotel both nights which served a tasty pizza and a glass of red . Lots of places close by to choose from.
Internet Cafe across the street.
