Great hotel in a great part of town (right next door to the US Embassy). The hotel was clean and staff was very helpful. The best meal we had in Rome was 2 blocks behind the hotel, at Giovanni's; a family owned place open since the 1930's.

I read a couple of the negative reviews and they were wrong. This was a great hotel with a good location. I read people concerned about the price of the breakfast buffet and they are correct it is too expensive. What they did not say was there are other things on the menu that are reasonablly priced. Plus you could walk a few steps outside of the hotel to little cafes for breakfast as well. The staff was awesome and I cant think of one bad thing to write. We stayed in Grand Luxe rooms that were adjoining. (I am gold with SPG and it was a complimentary upgrade) We had more than enough space in our rooms. We really could have had 4 people in the room but the kids wanted their own room.

I travel almost every week and am really pretty critical of hotels. But this place is a must!

We have stayed at this hotel a total of 4 times. We have been impressed each time. The style is traditional and classic. The rooms are a nice size and very clean. We were upgraded to a suite once which was a real treat.

The location is excellent and we walked to everything in Rome, although it's closest to Villa Borghese and the Spanish Steps.

The staff was more than helpful on several occasions. They helped often with directions, train schedules and general suggestions of thing to do both inside and outside of Rome.

The food and drinks in the hotel are pricey but that is to be expected. We went across the street for breakfast each morning instead of choosing the 30 euro breakfast in the hotel.

We will stay here again and recommend it to anyone.

We stayed at Westin Excelsior, Rome for 1 week (May 29 to June 7, 2009) using our starpoints. Via Veneto is a very expensive area to dine and shop. We are disappointed when we arrived at the hotel on May 29 our room was not yet ready. We have to wait till 2pm, and when they gave us our keycard and went to our room. Our room was not ready. The housekeeping was still busy cleaning our room. So we have to wait again for about 4 minutes. The hotel needs renovation, its already worn out. The furnitures, cabinets needs to be replaced. I was hesitant at first in booking/making reservations at this hotel. There are other two hotels which is Eden and St Regis with the same starpoints used which is nearby. We had dinner one night at the hotel, I remember ordering a coke, it cost about 10 dollars. The service at the restaurant is excellent. We are not coming back at this hotel again and will not recommend to my friends. But I would like to commend the housekeeping staff for a job well done.

The hotel is "Rome style", i.e. classical style. So if you enjoy zen, modern and minimalistic hotel, don't go there. The hotel is huge and it is quite a challenge to find the room the 1st night. I found the carpet on the floor a little bit old and the shower section could be renewed. Other than that, no complains. Location is good and it is in walking distance to almost everywhere in Rome.
Good buffet breakfast but very expensive (around 30 Euros if I remember well).
It is just a pity that for the size of the hotel, the size of the swimming pool is ridiculous (probably due to the fact it is a historical building).
