Hotel location is within walking distance to Spanish Steps, Harry's, Hard Rock. You can wander and find great restaurants and shops. We asked about public transit to the Vatican, but the concierge didn't recommend it so we took a taxi for 20 euro. Took taxi on the way back for 25 euro. The locals can spot us Americans a mile away and I do feel they take advantage of us with regard to taxi fares, so I would recommend trying public transport -what's the worst that can happen? You get lost and discover a new part of Rome? Or I would suggest bargaining with the taxi driver before getting into the car.
The hotel is absolutely beautiful and clean (which is my main concern). The restaurant in the hotel is very good and reasonably priced. We especially liked what we called Happy Hour at the hotel bar. You really could make a meal of all the food they give you for free with your drinks. Wonderful mozzarella sandwiches and the prosciutto is to die for.
The staff was incredibly helpful and kind, asking about the medical condition of our friend who fell and had a serious head injury, even bringing complimentary tea and coffee to out room one morning. When our friend's wife had to extend her stay due to her husband's injury, the hotel gave her a greatly reduced rate.
We didn't make it to the Trevi Fountain to throw a coin in to ensure our return to Rome, but I have every intention of returning and staying here!!
