We stayed in this hotel for one week, during a hot august week, and we were absolutely not satisfied.

Half of the staff in the reception, were more than unvilling to give even a small amount of service, if not approached in Italian.

The pool area is nice, besides on sunday, as there is no pool attendant on this day, there are no cleaning of the pool, or the area, so bottles, ashtrays, glasses etc from saturday were left untouched untill moday from saturday afternoon.

The hotel gives the opportunity to go by shuttlebus to the nearest Metro station, but only morning and evening. This is absolutely stupid, as the hotel is not offering any possibillity of eating in the hotel at lunchtime.

Sunday we could not get shuttle to the metro, as the hotel could not find a driver for the bus. This was not announced, and we did not find out untill we were ready for leaving. Also on sundays the restaurant in the hotel is closed, so from morning sunday to morning monday no food is avaliable, and in our case also no shuttle bus.

The reaturant is, when open, expensive and there are only four main courses on the menu.

We managed to go by the 503 regional bus, which is operated by the mos unpolite people we have ever met. Once we tryed to stop this bus by pressing the stop button, the driver just kept on, and we had to stay for half an extra tour as he would not stop even though we highly complained about his mistake.

But the summary of Best Western D'Europa is: stay away, the rooms are okay, but the placing of this hotel is very bad, and the shuttleservice far from enough.

We read all the other reviews in this page before leaving, but unforutnately first after having ordered the stay. We wish we had seen it before, and this is our contribute to a long row of negative reviews. Normally we are very undemanding regarding hotels, but when you are so far from everything as in this hotel, the service must be extraordinary. It was but unfortunately extraordinarily bad.

This was a decent hotel with a great breakfast room and a satisfying breakfast. The rooms were spacious and comfortable. Unfortunately it was over 100 deg and the staff did not give us the remote controls for the air conditioning. After trying to figure them out for a while, we asked at the desk and were then given the remotes. That helped us but our kids' room never actually cooled off. The location was great for an overnight near the airport but it is in a light industrial area so not good for a longer stay. The staff were OK but when we came down to take the bus to the station in the morning, we were the only ones for the shuttle and were told to wait in the lobby. We did, and then when the shuttle bus showed up, people that had come down after us rushed out and got in and we had to wait for he shuttle to go and come back for us. The guy at the desk just looked at me and shrugged when I looked upset by this. It wasn't really a big deal but could have been handled better.

The Best Western Giardino d'Europa is located up some remote street off the freeway. You cannot walk there from the metro station and you MUST get the correct bus from SubAugusto metro or it will take you 2 hours to get there when it's about 10 mins away! We had a bad experience staying here due to the hotel courtesy bus not waiting for us from the train station at the agreed time-we were 10 mins late. Staff did not seem to care too much. Whether this was lack of communication or they did not wait I'm not sure but it took us 2 hours to get to the hotel when its about 10 mins away. The hotel is located on a freeway and you cannot walk anywhere. The free shuttle to the airport only runs from 9am - 9pm so the whole point of staying there was to get to the airport early. I would not stay here again and I would not recommend it. Having said all of that the room was fine & clean and the beds comfy. The TV in the next room kept me awake a lot of the night even though it was not up loud.

  • Liked — the beds were comfortable

After reading most of the reviews I can safely say that each of them has value. We stayed here for one night after flying in to the main Rome Airport from the US. Even with a GPS we couldn't find the hotel and asking locals for directions didn't yield any better results. We finally stumbled on to the hotel and when we checked in we asked the somewhat indifferent clerk about the address. He said we had to put a different address into the GPS because the REAL address won't work. I agree, that the location is marginal, but the hotel does have a restaurant with passable food and an okay breakfast. Considering the price, it's an okay place to stay for ONE night while you are transiting to somewhere else.

Trying to find this hotel after a lengthy drive from Venice (itself after a three day drive from London via Switzerland and the Italian Alps), finding the hotel isn't easy. It's situated between the two carriageways of the Rome outer ring road, nestled between commercial units and what appeared to be abandoned housing at the end of a tiny track. Expectations were very low.

Fortunately I was pleasantly surprised. It's not the greatest hotel I've ever stayed in, but the impressions given en route are somewhat wide of the mark. Parking is awkward, but there's plenty. Reception were fine, swapping us from a double to a twin when requested - I'm close to my rally co-driver, but not that close!

A final challenge on the rally was in Rome centre, so we had to make our way out of the hotel. Fortunately there's a courtesy bus to the metro station. Unfortunately, it's the same bus as goes to the airport and we waited while it went off to the airport twice, leaving us in the lurch. Some passionate protestations to the driver and his manager on his return led to a very swift drive to the metro with a man who clearly believes he should have been working at Scuderia Ferrari. We got a taxi back from Rome, despite the cost.

The room for the night was clean, spacious and surprisingly quiet - we were between to motorway carriageways - which was appreciated after a very long day. Breakfast the next morning was a somewhat understated affair, but perfectly acceptable. We never got a look at the pool but, looking at the rest of the hotel as a guide, I'd be surprised if it was anything below satisfactory.

After breakfast, it was a quick check out and then a drive back to London.

  • Liked — Near Ciampino airport and surprisingly quiet
  • Disliked — Location, location, location.
