I stayed at the Holiday Inn Rome West for three nights in October as part of a business meeting. This was my first trip to Rome (and Italy), and it was disappointing to be staying at this hotel so far from the city. It would have been great to be able to walk around the city a bit in between my meetings, but this hotel is a 30+ minute and 20 Euro drive (don't let the kms fool you - the traffic is amazing! it took us an hour to get in for dinner on a Thursday night!) If you're staying there to sightseeing, any money you save by staying at a hotel outside the city would easily be asborbed by taxi fare. The hotel does have a shuttle, but in order to maximize my very limited time for sightseeing, I didn't really have enough time to wait for the next run.

The hotel itself was OK - 1970's decor, but clean. The staff wasn't not very friendly, but I found that to be the case throughout Rome. There is a flatscreen tv in the room (and some sort of steamer thing), but you have to request an iron and ironing board. They have 3 computers in the lobby that you can pay to use the internet, and then wireless in the rooms. Bed was very stiff and linens not very comfortable. At this stage, I guess I'm used to staying in nicer hotels.

The hotel is located next to a major road, and there's a McDonalds within walking distance and perhaps a grocery store (not much!). While I did feel safe within the hotel, I would not (especially as a single woman) walk around the hotel property at night. We noticed a number of "women of the night" hanging out around the hotel as we arrived back after dinner each night. Not interested in seeing that side of Rome!

There were a bunch of tour groups staying at the hotel, and I suppose it's a decent place for a last stop before heading to the airport (which was only 30 min away).

I will not choose to stay here again, but if it's a business meeting and I have to, it would be OK.

We stayed at the hotel twice in the same trip. We had booked a villa in Tuscany from Sat to Sat, but our flight out was on the Friday and flight back on the Sunday, because of the limited flights into Rome with our local budget airline (Jet2). We wanted to visit Rome anyway, so our party of three couples booked rooms here for an overnight stay at the start and end of our holiday.
It turned out to be an excellent choice. Clean, decent sized rooms and a modern airy feel about the lobby/lounge areas. The breakfast was fine and one of the evenings when we arrived we were very late, but they went out of their way to ensure we were able to eat in the restaurant. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The shuttle bus is great. You need to make sure you book it for every trip you want to make to Rome or to the airport as it is understandably very popular. We had to use taxis on a couple of occasions and this wasn't cheap, but it was well compensated for by the great sightseeing available.
The swimming pool and surrounding area was great for chilling out after a trip to see the sights, with big towels available and a helpful attendant.
It was perfect for our trip and we will certainly consider using it again for that type of trip, but don't book it if you want a central Rome location! With a hire car you are straight out on to the motorway network and you don't have the hassle (understatement?) of dealing with central Rome traffic.

Clean, reasonable place to stay. It is way outside Rome and is a 20E cab ride away from Rome and a 45E ride from the airport or train station. However, the hotel maintains a shuttle to town or the airport. The town shuttle is doable. But your timing has to be right for the airport shuttle. Ours was not.

Food is very expensive there. However, just at the bottom of the hill is a McDonalds and a grocery store. You can easily use both to save money.

Rooms are small but so are many in Europe.

I booked the hotel through the priority club which is affiliated with holiday inns across the world. I was looking for a place to stay that I could use as a stopping point for one day and night while I waited for a flight through the main airport in Rome. The Hotel was located on the west side of Rome. I drove my own car but if I was a tourist the hotel offered shuttle service to the airport and into Rome to touring the city. The Hotel was clean and the room was nice. The Hotel offered a resturant and small bar which was a little pricey but to be expected. It cost 6 euro to park for the night, which is much cheaper than most hotels in Rome. The Hotel was not close to the Metro but if you are driving or want to use the shuttle that the hotel uses on their schedule, it was a decent location. Bottom line is I would stay there again.
