I really enjoyed my stay at the Atlante Garden Hotel. It's perfectly situated just outside the city centre, only a block away from the Vatican itself. The building itself was beautiful. I very much liked the roof terras with the little garden. From there you had a view over the whole city and more specifically the 'Borgo de Sant'Angelo'.
I am very satisfied about the service, rendered by Atlante Garden. They were always very friendly and their English was remarkable.
The breakfast was very good too.

Since this was our first trip to Rome I have no frame of reference concerning the quality of the star ratings in Rome. But this is by no stretch of the imagination a 4 star hotel. The staff is pleasant enough but our room (235) was very dark with a slight aroma of mildew. The towels are ancient and the hotel provides the basic amenities, shampoo, a small bar of soap and some bath gel. Internet access is dial up. The breakfast is passable. There were at least 4 other couples staying there that are equally upset about their rooms and over all quality of this hotel. We all expected more since the description touted roof top views(maybe at the sister hotel the Atlante Star) but not here. Don't bother looking at the court yard since its a jumble of construction. Do yourself a favor and don't stay here.

Although I read many reviews highlighting that a 4star in Europe is not what you find in North America I was disappointed upon my arrival due to the small room and lack of water preasure / hot water - HOWEVER - the hotel upgraded us to a deluxe room that was much larger with a far better bathroom upon my request without hesitation. The location is wonderful with almost all attractions in walking distance or a short subway / taxi ride and it was very clean.

After being picked up an hour late and the driver (pretending to be a wanna be nascar driver) finally getting us to the hotel (or skid row building), our first indication that it might have been one of those "hook em and cook em" moments that you get - when you are lied to when looking at the web site - was a couple walking up the stairs to the street telling us "if you have not checked in yet - DON"T".

Well after looking at the rooms before even checking in - That is my advice also - DON"T!! I wish there was some recourse for misleading web sites that lure people to hotel and then you are stuck.

We loaded up 6 people into 2 cabs and found another hotel.Granted the location is not the same - but we are getting an honest nights stay.
