I stayed at the Regent last July and found the hotel to be great. Clean, spacious rooms. No tea/coffee facilities in room, but that didnt bother me. There are two lifts up to the hotel rooms so you dont have to take the stairs. Breakfast was lovely, pleanty to choose from and tasty. Hotel staff we found to be very friendly and all spoke English, however a little Italian always goes a long way. The only down side to this hotel is it's location, it's a little out the way and you need to get the tube everyday to get into the centre. We got a 3 day pass which you can buy at the tube station. Also we found there we no resturaunts nearby so ate at the hotel every night, this wasnt a problem as the food was lovely, a great choice and not too overpriced, but it would've been nice to eat out at least once. Rome is a fantastic city and I would love to go back, I would certainly consider this hotel again, but would try to find one of a similar standard a bit closer to the main attractions. That said, we didnt have a problem with the tube and it's probably the best way to see the whole city if you only have a few days. Hope this review helps.

This hotel was an average 2-Star Hotel. The room was clean and reasonable. No tea/coffee making available in the room. The lifts were very small. All the tv channels were in Italian- none in English. Had trouble with the room cards not working and a few others on our group had the same problem. In the winter- the warm air-conditioning can be turned off but not turned on to cool the room down. In the summer (I was told) the cool air-conditioning can be turned off but not turned on to heating if the room is cold. Cheap system. The staff in the hotel were hit and miss- one person hung up the phone on me when I rang from the room, while another lady in reception couldn't have been more helpful. The breakfast each day was just okay with sliced ham, cheese and salmon. Also a selection of breads, cereals etc were available.
Up the road and around the corner past the subway station is a cheap and cheerful pasta place PASTARITA (they are part of a chain). Reasonable pizza's and pasta about 5 to 12 euros a dish. We used it once or twice, as we ducked the hotel restuarant. Rome anyway is full of pasta places, so why get ripped off by the hotel? To the left out the hotel entrance is another tiny pizza place, which does takeway and sells bottled water.
The subway was 1 euro per trip or 4 euros a day. Keep the hotel card with you, because sometimes the taxi drivers don't know the hotel as it is a bit outside the centre. Once they had the name, they all used GPS to navigate there. About 8 or 10 euros from Trevi fountain to hotel depending on traffic.
If the pope is at home, his public audience is on Wednesday and his celebrates mass on Sunday mornings.
Enjoy Rome and just use the hotel to sleep in.

Feb 18, 2008 | Trip type: Couples

My partner and I stayed at the Regent for three nights. Our stay was riddled with problems on the first night. The shower head was covered in limescale and the shower doors were broken, one of with swayed from side to side. The ceiling was rotten and the general decour of the room was somewhat lacking. We requested to change rooms and after sending a workman to check the shower, reception agreed to do so. We were taken to the new room upon arriving to the room the staff could not open the door with the electronic key, after subsequent trips to and from reception the workman opened the door manually. We took our luggage into the room and were then told we had to change rooms again! Our third and final room was of a much better standard, the shower head was directly over a bath and was very volitile. We would honestly say this hotel is no more than a three star. Location wise the regent was also lacking, it was too far out to be on any of guide book maps and definately too far to walk into the city centre. The metro station was only 2minutes away but was not a mainline and closes at 10:30pm. A taxi ride from the airport to the hotel will set you back 45-50 euros we strongly advise you to take the shuttle bus which costs 6 euros per person. On the positive side, the staff were very friendly and the breakfast, whilst limited, was tasty.

Stayed at this hotel for 2 nights from 2nd to 4th Nov 2007.
The room was very large with kingsize bed plus single bed, tv and minibar, nice sized clean bathroom with toiletries and hairdryer, bed linen and towels cleaned each day.
The breakfast was a very nice continental style, plenty of food choice and waiters kept replenishing the food throughout . The breakfast service was buffet style from 6.30am til 10.30am and the waiters were efficient in seating you and clearing away dirty plates.
One mistake was to walk from the termini to the hotel thinking it wouldn't take long, I advise you to take a taxi for this first journey as its very easy to get lost!
There is a metro station just 500 yards to the right of the hotel which for 1 euro will take you to the next stop (2 mins journey) just over the road from the spanish steps, from there everything is walking distance.
We never ate in the hotel restaurant of an evening, why would you want to when the best pizza and pasta is 2 minutes away in the centre of Rome?
Definately a good hotel overall, the cost of room included the breakfast and as this was just a last minute budget break i did not mind the metro ride in for the sake of cheaper room rates, the hotel is clean, and staff are helpful.

Don't ever stay at this hotel and if you are going as a member of a tour group check first if this is the hotel your tour company has chosen and if this is so stay at home, We have just returned after spending 4 nights in this so called 4 star hotel as part of a tour group from Ireland. My husband and I have travelled through many countries worldwide and we can honestly say the food in this hotel is the worst we have ever seen. On three of our four nights there we were served veal for dinner but this meat resembled more the "veal substitute" mentioned on "Fawlty Towers" Television programme. In Fawlty Towers veal substitute was described as being made from soya beans and essence of cow. If by any chance the veal wasn't of the substitute variety then the potatoes certainly were. We were given a "mash" which resembled a runny semolina pudding and which tasted vile. on one evening there was no "potato substitute " and the menu then boasted "stewed peas". On one evening surprise ! surprise ! veal was not the dish and instead we were treated to bone with a scrap of chicken attached. On two evenings the menu boasted "fresh fruit salad" as dessert. That turned out to be a bowl of various whole fruits which the waiter placed in the centre of the table and it was left to each of the 6 diners at each table to decide the best way of dividing it equally. Needless to say most of the food was returned uneaten each night and some of our party resorted to eating elsewhere even though they had paid for dinner here. Breakfast menu on the internet boasts a selection of hot food. Dear people don't be fooled. There is one solitary hot food item that is scrambled eggs. There is tinned fruit cocktail and pineapple, reconstituted orange and pineapple juice, cornflakes, ham ,cheese and bread rolls and selection of pastries. Many of the staff were rude and downright ill mannered. One of our members purchased and paid for 4 drinks at the hotel bar on his way to dinner one evening. He then brought the drinks to the dining table. When the meal was ended a waiter approached him and demanded payment for the drinks. Our member said he had paid for them earlier but the waiter demanded a receipt which our member did not have. Our tour member was forced to call the manager before the situation was rectified. However the next evening when this tour member went to the bar to order drinks the barman totally ignored him as if he was not standing there and our member was forced to get another member of the tour to order drinks for him. The rooms were adequate but if this is how they look after refurbishment I shudder to think what they looked like prior to this. The view from our window consisted of pipes covered with birds droppings. It rained on the last day we spent in Rome and the foyer of the hotel stank with a smell of sewerage. The lift is tiny and slow. The towels were changed each day and the bed made up also. Rome is supposed to be the food capital of the world but by the evidence of the Regent Hotel its at the bottom of the pile
