“Great location, comfortable, but noisy!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 28, 2012

Located a 15 minute stroll downhill from Rome main train terminus (14€ express from Fiumicino airport takes 30 mins) Right opposite Trajan's market and 50m to Trajan's Column. Unfortunately situated on one of the busiest roads, with traffic day and night. Comfortable, clean rooms with TV and fridge. Staff are very welcoming and helpful. Breakfast a bit basic, but quite adequate. Coffee from a machine, but if you insist and are polite may get a better coffee made with the proper machine in the kitchen.15 minute stroll to the Colosseum and 20 -30 mins to the Pantheon and Piazza Navona.

Room Tip: Ask for a room to the rear if you want to sleep - or take ear plugs!

Extremely noisy! No soundproof windows = NO SLEEP! Overpriced, very poor quality. total rip off! Do not be fooled by the staff and lobby when you arrive, oh and by their website! Do not stay here this is a tourist trap!

They charge 280 euros for this thing. We payed a bit less through Hotwire, but we are requesting a total refund... The staff was not friendly at all, when I complained about the absence of any window soundproofing and not being able to sleep, the personnel was arrogant and just told me to contact hotwire for refund.

Also, do not be fooled by this city location, its ok, if you want to spend your day shoping in piazza venezia, spanish steps and be close to coloseum, but the historic centre (Pantheon) is much more attractive. And btw you can easily walk everywhere in this city so lodging location should not be a limitation.

Room Tip: Not room 212! Not any room on either of the streets!

We stayed 3 nights at the Traiano Hotel. Very good impression at the beginning mainly because of the attention, lobby and location. However, once we got into the room, this was EXTREMELY noisy with no chance to reduce it. The window was not anti-noise, just a normal window. Overall, good hotel, Excellent location but difficult to rest...

Basically if you are expecting a 4 stars hotel with all the amenities of 4 stars you will remain very disappointed. The breakfast is poor, room is simple as the bathroom (e.g hairdrier very simple and attached to the wall). The employees are kind and try to meet clients' expectations. The location is very good in the centre of Rome even if you have to ask for a room with a panoramic view.

During a recent trip to Italy I booked two standard rooms at this hotel for myself, my wife and my parents. I booked to stay 3 nights from 26th to 28th July 2012 inclusive.

On arrival our first impressions were good. The staff were helpful and the reception area appeared clean and smart.

My parents stayed in room 203 and my wife and I in room 208. Room 208 was still being cleaned when we arrived but 203 was available.

Room 203 was of a poor standard. The bedspread was stained, the picture on the wall had a water stain and the room appeared grubby and dirty. The furniture in the room was chipped and in poor condition and is not of the standard we expected.

Room 208 appeared to have been recently decorated but the floor was dusty although the room had apparently just been cleaned. The bedspread was also stained and the air conditioning was not working. The room was hot and uncomfortable. The top of the air conditioning unit was broken and the fan did not work. I went to the desk and told them about the air conditioning unit and I was told it was working but someone would come and show us how to use it. A staff member came and saw it was broken and said it would be fixed the next day. This did not happen and remained broken.

I could not turn the television on and had to ask a staff member how to use it. He had difficulty turning it on as it was not easy to use.

My wife decided to purchase Wi-Fi and went to the front desk. She paid 10 euros and followed the instructions given to her. She was unable to connect to the internet in either room 203 or 208. She went back to reception and a porter came back upstairs and showed her the router which was in a cupboard and told her it was working. During the rest of our stay she could not connect to the internet. We were not given a refund as we were told the system was working.

The bathrooms were very small and the door could not be opened fully. The only place to hang a towel was above the bidet and the toilets did not flush properly and had to be flushed several times.

The bath was so small and narrow it was difficult to stand in it to shower.

After the second day we were so disappointed with the standard of the hotel we decided the leave early and not stay the third night as planned. We explained our position to the reception staff and were told it was too late to cancel the rooms.

In my opinion this Hotel does not meet the 4 star standard. During out trip we stayed at 9 different hotels throughout Italy all of which were 4 star. Each of these hotels were clean and comfortable with free Wi-Fi which worked and were a pleasure to stay in.

I asked to be refunded for the night we did not stay as the Hotel was not of the proper standard and this was refused.

I have e mailed the hotel twice with all the above comments and so far have been completely ignored,

If you are going to Rome find a different hotel even if you have to walk a little further to see the city.
This is the worst hotel I have ever stayed in.

Room Tip: Find a different hotel!

The hotel Traiano is everything I expected from a hotel central to all the major historical monuments in Rome. The rooms are quite small though clean and comfortable. The bathroom is quite cramped but serves its purpose - after all I didn't travel to Rome to admire the paintwork on the bathroom ceiling! The staff are very helpful and pleasant. Breakfast is plentiful and continental serving boiled eggs, cold meat, cheese, croissants etc. The hotel is very well situated with the Trevi Fountain only a five minute walk away on the right when you exit the hotel, Roman Forum is just down the steps across from hotel and Colosseum 10 minutes walk from there. Would definitely recommend a guided tour of major attractions as there is so much to see that often goes unnoticed. Be careful of taxi drivers as some of them try to charge extortionate fares. Also be very wary of pickpockets who prey on tourists around the Vatican. Will definitely return to Hotel Traiano.

We had a great stay at the Hotel Traiano. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, some of our party had a couple of niggles in their rooms when we first arrived and they were sorted out almost immediately. The front desk has a range of services, including booking trip buses, which we used.
Breakfast was continental, with a good choice of cereals, cheese, meats, rolls and bread, tea, coffee and juces.
The bedrooms were air-conditioned which was a blessed relief in the July heat, and had a minibar. Some of our party had a safe in their room. Bathrooms feature shower/tub combinations with handheld showerheads and hair dryers. Wireless Internet access is available for a surcharge.
Out twin room overlooked the main street so was noisy, but being in the heart of the city you would expect that.
A roof terrace or outside space would have made this hotel almost perfect, but there are plenty of bars and restaurants within a couple of minutes walking distance.
I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel, and would definately use it again on a return trip to Rome.
