The position of this hotel is very nice. And probably it was a nice hotel...around 40years ago... The room had a terrible smell. Bathroom was so small that it was almost impossible to close the door from inside. The telephone in the room was so uncomfortable, that it was impossible to keep it down, so it was always busy !!! Breakfast was shamefull, even not a normal espresso in Italy ! not to say about all the rest...

But something wasn't bad anyway... Beside the nice position the hotel was quite clean and staff was friendly. (If not to take in consideration "False" transfer that they organized us.)

(1)The Location:- The hotels location could not be better, it is central to all the main attractions... 10 minute walk to the colleseum and roman forum, and is central to all the main via's (roads) via del corso is worth a strole down, as all the main tourist attractions lead off this street, eg, spanish steps, trevi fountain etc.and shops that are affordable can be found situated here, - zara, miss sixty etc.Me and my partner found it easy to access all the main tourist sites from this hotel by foot.

(2) The Hotel itself:- The staff are lovely and helpful, especailly Frabritizio on reception, he recommmended the best restaurants in roma, and was very happy to assist us with anything we wished to know. The hotel lobby and reception are well decorated, as well as the breakfast room, however there is NO restaurant, therefore No room-service. There is something of a 'bar' which consists of a single shelf with 4-6 bottels on and a coffee machine....- this is over exagerated in many websites for this hotel. The breakfast is continental - bread & butter, yoghurt and pure juices, i wouldnt waste your morning 'eating' there, and would just grab a bite to eat in one of the many beautiful piazza's.

(3)The Rooms In the hotel are nothing like what the pictures show! The beds are roughly about 1ft off the floor and if you ask for a double bed you WILL get 2 singles just pushed together, we only got one pillow each, id say less if they were'nt as flat as a hankerchief! The tv's are something dated from the 1800's and was constantly fuzzy and had no volume control .. + NO Remote. ....it resembled something of a shoe box, that small and pointless to have. The shower flooded the bathroom and we were woken each morning about 8am by maids hoovering up! which eventually gets annoying. The central location of the hotel makes it rather noisy outside, but its not much of a problem. We also found our air-con didnt work too.

Overall, you couldnt get a better centrally located hotel than this, which is the only reason why I would stay here again, however, the poor conditon of the rooms will keep us away on our return to rome. What makes this a 4 star hotel .. i really dont no.......

Hotel Traiano was clean, with courteous staff. Room was small but clean, bathroom well groomed. My room (2 nights) was on the street but not too noisy with the windows closed. Usual continental breakfast, good quality (no hot foods though). Center of the action to sight-seeing, easy to walk to all major sites and the shopping district. Knowing what I know now, I'd likely stay out of Rome center and take excellent public transport trains into the center of action. Local restaurants were way over-priced, under-portioned and not very tasty...I ate much better after I left city-center...Overall OK for a first time visitor, but you can probably find cheaper yet just as accessible a little ways out...

My partner and I recently stayed for a week at the hotel and overall found it to be a very pleasant experience. We arrived to find a slight difficulty with our bathroom furnishings but without delay, the hotel staff presented us with an alternative room.

The bedroom was sufficent for our needs: routinely cleaned in an expert manner. The staff were excellent- multi-lingual, helpful, polite and generous with their time. We should mention here, Guisseppe, a receptionist with a wicked humour and passion for resolving complaints, regardless of how minor. He was a joy. But other staff were just as friendly to us and we could not commend them highly enough for their help.

The noise from the street outside could be somewhat offputting, if like us you have a room at the front of the building. But, on the plus side, outside our window as some consolation was a vista of ancient Rome with the Forum and the vittorio and emmanuelle monument!

One other minor criticism would be the presentation of breakfast where clearly the lady charged with the duties found this to be a task beyond her gifts. This is of course offset by the grandeur of the breakfast room with the ornate ceiling and wall displays.

We found the return journey to Ciampino much easier than on previous trips to Rome when depending on taxi or shuttle bus. This time the experience was handed over to hotel staff, who expertly arranged a luxury car with driver to be at our disposal for the trip at a reasonable cost of fifty euros. This treatment saves a lot of aggravation I can assure you, particularly if you want to avoid being overcharged by the regular taxi service or more blisters from the tramping towards the temini station for the shuttle.

I recommend to you this hotel as a choice place to stay for the location, the presentation and the staff service.

We booked this hotel after arriving in Rome. The hotel we reserved was near the train station and not as close to the sights as we would have liked. After a while, we realized why this hotel had vacancies in the middle of the busy tourist season. We had two rooms for 4 nights,so we spent a considerable amout. The rooms are small, but very clean. However, someone staying at the hotel (or perhaps one of the staff) smoked (there is a new law in Italy that no smoking is allowed inside hotels). Our entire floor reaked of cigarette smoke that definately infiltrated our room. We complained numerous times but the staff just insisted that there was no smoking allowed in Italy's hotels. The night clerk just dismissed this and told us to talk to the morning staff. Because we wanted two adjacent rooms, we did not request a change. Also, our rooms were in the back of the hotel which backs up to a small alley with a bar. This bar is obviously a favorite spot for tourists, because it was so loud from about 11pm-2am every night that we could not sleep. It was nice that breakfast was included, but it was mediocre at best. The coffee was instant from a machine and was not very good (although the staff would bring fresh coffee (Italian) on request. The orange juice was really artificial, but the pastries were good. They did not provide fresh fruit for breakfast. The location was the hotel's best feature. We were able to walk to all of the major sights; no need to board one of the packed buses! Definately do not stay at this hotel; it is not worthy of its 4-star rating. With a few changes, they could improve.
