We stayed 9 nights at the Park Hotel Dei Massimi and were very satisfied with the accomodations. Rooms are not very big but size of hotel rooms come at a large premium in Rome. The rooms, including bathroom, were very well cleaned everyday by the staff. The concierge service at front was EXTREMELY helpful in directions, taxi services, tour planning, etc. Simona, Daniella and Stefano are the best! This hotel is about a 10 minute taxi ride to St. Peters - sounds long but we actually preferred the quiet surroundings of this middleclass neighborhood as opposed to the loud, hustle and bustle in and around the heart of Vatican City (which is a lot more expensive also). The complimentary breakfast is outstanding! Bacon, eggs, croissants, danish, cereals, fruits, prosciutto, cheeses, fruit juice machines, cappucino/espresso - as much as you can eat (This was well worth the stay since food is not cheap in and around the tourist areas like Vatican City). Ask for Gennaro, the breakfast coordinator, and he will take care of you in saving some delicious cream filled "coronettos" (croissants). The bus line, #990, picks up at the end of the block to go to Vatican City (yes, you have to purchase bus tickets at a local tobacco/food shop). You will have to walk maybe 10 to 15 minutes to some of the vicinity restaurants. The hotel restaurant is very good food but the dinners are a bit on the expensive side. I recommend "Capperi" less than a mile away and only 15-20 minute walk from the hotel. Outstanding menu and food is exceptional. Indoor/Outdoor under big umbrellas with reasonable prices (again, this is not the tourist area). They do have employees that speak English (and have a English menu LOL). In all honesty, probably we spent a little bit more on taxis but the price on the hotel was very reasonable via online sites and the atmosphere and staff were great.
