The view from the terrace rooms of the Hotel Lancelot rivals the view of Florence from Lucy's room in the Merchant Ivory film, "A Room with a View". Close by is the round shape of the Colliseum and, in the far distance, the grey dome of St Peter's Basilica. In the spirit of King Arthur, the international guests sit at round tables which encourage conviviality and conversation with people you have just met. You can continue talking afterwards in the small, sophicticated bar or in the patio under fronds of trailing ivy.The pretty rooms are comfortable and the family service friendly and efficient.

My husband and I recently returned from our honeymoon which included 3 nights in Rome. When planning our trip, we conducted an exhaustive (and exhausting) search for the perfect hotel, and finally decided on the Lancelot. We could not have been more pleased with our choice! The hotel is lovely throughout. Our room was large by European standards, clean, nicely decorated and with a good-sized modern bath. The hotel is on a quiet street, so the outside noises were not unplesant. However we heard no noise at all from outside when the windows were closed, and never any noise from within the hotel. The Lancelot is full of lovely details, including hallway doors on each floor that I understand were installed recently to meet fire codes, but are hand-made works of art created by the talented Ferris (more about him later) and I believe his handy brother-in-law. (Sorry if I got the story wrong guys!) We enjoyed the smoothest double esspressos we've ever had in the bar. Breakfasts included good breads and pastries, a bounty of spreads, cereals, juices, coffee... and the dinners were to die for. Ferris, we learned is not only part of the owning family and a charming host, but the chef! Sign up for dinner ahead of time, and you will be treated to a world-class multi-course dinner. We also found the location to be perfect -- near the Colloseum and Roman Forum, but really fairly near everything as we found Rome to be very walkable. Most of all though, the staff was so warm and helpful -- and multi-lingual which was nice.
All in all a great experience, and we will definitely stay at the Lancelot again for any future trips to Rome.

I have just spent two nights at the Hotel Lancelot. This was my third visit, and since my last the hotel has been almost totally refurbished.
It was a delight to stay there again. It is very handy to the Colliseum and to many local restaurants. My room was beautifully furnished with a lovely bathroom. I do agree with one reviewer who said you could hear the adjoining shower running! The round tables are a great idea for meeting new friends, and the breakfast is excellent. I would certainly stay at the Lancelot again.

If you want a good night's sleep, don't stay here! You can hear everything--toilets being flushed, conversations in other rooms, baths being drawn. When I first started researching hotels in Rome, the Lancelot came in at #12. There's a reason why it dropped to #27. I chose it based on the glowing reviews found here and in some guidebooks. The room itself isn't too bad, it was smaller than our rooms at other hotels in Italy but it was clean and the bathroom was OK. The staff is pleasant and helpful. Location OK, you can walk to Coloseum, Palantine, Forum and San Clemente and San Giovani churhes. If I go back to Rome, I would definitely stay elsewhere.

We just returned from a stay in Rome at the Hotel Lancelot. What a charming and lovely hotel. We had a triple room with a balcony. It was large and beautifully furnished and had a beautiful marble bath. All the common rooms were lovely and the bar area a nice addition. My husband and I had a glass of wine there while our son was sleeping in the late afternoon. The breakfast room/ dining room is large and lovely. The round tables do lend themselves to sharing and meeting other guests which we liked. It is also immaculately clean. We found little neighborhood groceries and cafes nearby, as well as resturants.
One little bakery had wonderful pastries for .65 E. The area is not as upscale as the area near, for example, Piazza Santa Nuvano, but full of atmospher and quiet and safe. A five minute walk to metro and the Collloseum.
