Just returned from a three night stay at the Britannia which proved a good base for exploring Rome, Plus points were good access to transport, Termini etc, convenient walking distance to many of the main attractions and friendly and helpful staff. Negatives which have all been commented on by others were the smallish size of the rooms and the cost for the facilities available. Rome is now a very expensive city and the hotel is right in the centre but nevertheless 200 Euros a night for a hotel that is no more than 3 star is a bit steep. Reception staff though were unfailingly helpful including arranging a room move for us to a higher floor with more natural light and the hotel tries hard with fish tanks in each room, plastic ducks and bamboo plants to create an individual atmosphere which mainly succeeds. We all made use of the Irish Bar on the opposite side of the road which runs a happy hour from 7-8 each evening. This reduces the price of a pint from 6 to 4.8 Euro. Handy supermarket as well at the other end of Via Napoli which has a wide range of food and drinks at reasonable prices.
