Purpose of staying in Trastevere:To be near daughter who lives in that area of town
Location of Hotel: We loved being on the narrow, cobblestone streets! The area is great for pedestrians, but personally I would not want to drive there! It is just a very short walk to bus and tram stops, very close to Ponte Sisto and in the midst of an area brimming with places to eat. We ate in Trastevere every night of our stay and enjoyed the food and the atmosphere of the different places. We walked to most of the tourist spots that we visited -- but we are walkers. It is also very convenient to use the bus and tram system. FYI - This area of Trastevere is narrow streets going seemingly all directions that connect various little Piazzas. Don't be intimidated, just wander around until you find what you are looking for, and enjoy the wandering. Also, although we were American tourists, we were very pleased that we did not encounter many other Americans. (That was the point of going to another country after all, to experience that country).
Room: Larger than expected, comfortable beds, quiet for a hotel - we didn't hear bathroom noises from other rooms such as water running or toilets flushing nor did we hear voices of other guests, except those walking down hallway. We were able to open our 2nd piano (3rd floor) windows to let in the great spring air and enjoy the sounds of the city (sirens, trams etc); however when the windows were closed the room was very quiet. There were wonderful solid wood shutters on the window that darkened the room and enabled us to sleep. Our room and bathroom (not shared!) were kept very clean. One little perk for the bathroom was a towel warmer. Delightful! There was also ample closet and drawer space.
The substantial breakfast provided included a nice variety -- cereal, yogurt, fruit, cheese, a variety of breads and pastries, and of course, cappuccino!
Staff: Very friendly and helpful when asked. Provided a map of the area, helped book tickets, look up train schedules etc. We spoke no Italian - other than basic greetings, but their English was excellent, so there was no communication difficulty.
We were on vacation, so we did not use the internet or watch TV. Also, note that the weather was not hot when we were there, and it was not the height of tourist season.
