Just back from being in a hotel in the square which overlooks this is a great site to view ......if you want a very good experience believe me there is a Mc Donalds facing it very well presented honest .....The best time to visit the Pantheon is it is pouring with rain so you can see it coming through the roof!

We continue to the Pantheon and get there around 10:45am. It is not busy- yay! I listen to my audio guide and take it all in.

I take pics of the inside – tombs of Raphael, Vittorio Emmanuel, the dome and statutes. The dome is slightly bigger than St Peter’s and it is wide as big. It is mostly concrete and made very precisely. It is supposed to be the best peserved of all the Roman buildings.

It was a beautiful day and the occulus, hole in the ceiling, you can see pretty clouds go by. Pantheon is at Via della Rotunda.

It is also a functioning Catholic church. There was not a mass while we were there but there was plenty of signs.

We left around 11:15am. You don't need much time to enjoy this beauitful place, but it helps to come early so you don't hit the crowds.

There is just something about the Pantheon that is so striking. It is massive and well preserved, but mostly it just seems so perfectly proportioned, something that really catches your eye in a way that is hard to describe. It is a visual feast. And of course there are a lot of people there eating it up. But given the Pantheon's size, it doesn't seem to get all that crowded, not compared to some other sites (if you think this is bad don't even consider going within blocks of the Vatican). Inside it is just as grand, and the skylight lets in a beam of sun that just tops off the whole image. About as perfect as one building can be.

Definitely one of the sites you must see in Rome. It is beautiful inside and majestic on the outside. The piazza here is also a great place to stop and have lunch. (If the Pantheon is a bit crowded, duck down the sidestreet towards the Church of Sant'Ignazio Di Loyola, by the way.)
