“My favorite Church in Rome”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 23, 2012

Do you know the painter Caravaggio? This beautiful Baroque church has THREE paintings by Caravaggio. Step up to the nave, put a Euro in the box and the lights come on for a short time. Breathtaking.
The church is beautiful, too, and different from others, as it's a French church, all done in blues and golds.
Definitely a must-see.

“Must See in Rome”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 21, 2012

This is one my favorite churches in Rome. Not really for the church aspect of it, but for the wonderful art there. Don't go looking for a pious experience, as it seems more like a museum. That said, the art there is breathtaking and moving, and a must see for visitors and residents of Rome.

“The reviews don't lie”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 21, 2012 via mobile

This is a wonderful church. To see the three Caravaggio masterpieces as they were meant to be displayed is simply breathtaking, but to sit in one of the pews and soak in the rest of the church and the unforgettable smell of incense is an experience in and of itself. The place is oozing with the former glory of Western civilization. A more personal, and for me more spiritual experience than larger, more famous churches like Saint Peter's and Saint John Lateran.

“One word, Caravaggio...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 20, 2012

St Luigi del Francesi is a beautiful church in a city of many beautiful churches, but it has 3 Caravaggio paintings on St Matthew. No other church can make that claim. If you had limited time to enjoy Rome, this is one site I would recommend.

“the incredible Contarelli Chapel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 17, 2012

The ability to see the three Caravaggio paintings in this small chapel - all relating to St matthew - at such close quarters and in such perfect light conditions is an incredible and breathtaking experience everytime one goes. One can study them for hours.
