We just returned from European travel to London, Paris and Rome. ESH was our last stop and thank God as the hotel in Paris left much to be desired. The rooms are clean, modern and chic and they have the amenities that foreign travelers like (a safe in the room), security cameras, etc. The staff was wonderful, Monica at reception was always very warm and helpful and Mauritzio (sp?), the owner was so pleasant and unassuming that I didn't even know that he was the owner until we were halfway through! The food for both breakfast and dinner was great and the staff made our stay a true delight. We requested that they arrange transport back to the hotel and it was reasonably priced and prompt with no price escalations as reported by another guest in a previous post. The area surrounding the hotel is a little rundown, hence the title of my review as the hotel property is quiet and peaceful, not quite in line with the general area. Metro bus is readily accessible right in front of the hotel and the metro rail was walking distance (about 10mins.) I would definitely recommend this hotel and would return should my travels bring me back to Rome.

Room Tip: My room was directly in front of the elevator and it was still quiet!

We (young adults aged 22 & 20) enjoyed a 4 night stay in mid August. The hotel was very modern with a comfortable bed and good night sleep ensured after a long day of sight seeing. We felt the breakfast was pretty poor and chose to eat elsewhere. The service provided was very good and we appreciated the hotel looking after our cases after checkout so that we could continue our sightseeing until our night time flight. In addition, the man behind the bar was very friendly and always had a smile on his face.

In terms of location, the hotel is a fair distance from the city centre. As stated by other reviews, the metro is a 15min walk away. As the heat was quite extreme, it could be pretty exhausting especially if you had to return to the hotel for any reason during the day (we did). I would not let the location put you off at all though.

Finally, transport to and from the hotel from Termini was our only problem. We had read before we went that getting a taxi from Termini could result in deliberate overcharging and decided to get the metro with our cases at around 11pm. I would certainly not advise this as there are 4 exits within the metro (Cornelia) and we ended up slightly lost. (Note: when exiting the metro, go through the barriers and turn left. Go up all the escalators and turn right to appear above ground with McDonalds in sight). Additionally, there were a few groups of guys hanging about drinking in the street and made us feel slightly uncomfortable when we didn't really know where we were going. As we were leaving the hotel about 5pm, we decided to get a taxi to Termini and got a very nice taxi driver who set the meter as it should be (around 2euros plus 1.50euros per case). It cost 20euros and he wouldn't take a tip.

Overall, the hotel served its purpose and we very happy we chose ESH hotel.

Great hotel, had a 7 night stay, room and hotel spotless. The service at breakfast was first class especially from Davide, nothing was too much trouble for him and the rest of the staff, as was the service provided by Saheed during the evening in the hotel bar. We ate in the hotel restaurant twice as we were usually out until late and again the service provided was excellent as was the quality of food which was also good value for money. We were very surprised to find that tea / coffee making facilities were not provided in the room, as this seems to be standard in other hotels. We also found that the air conditioning in our room did not seem to be working correctly but was told that it was, and the whole hotel worked from the same system, this being the case I do not understand why our room always seemed hot making sleeping difficult but the rest of the hotel was cool. These two things have prevented the hotel from receiving a rating of excellent. We usually walked to the metro station this takes about 15-20 minutes and the metro is great for getting around to see everything, but be aware at all times if the station is very crowded as we did see some dubious characters who looked to be up to no good.

Wonderful location and taxi to Piazza Navona, only 11 euros, so worth it as you aren't waiting in the heat for a bus. Husband went sick, staff couldn't do enough to help us. They were fantastic especially David, who even helped me take some food from the breakfast buffet to our room as my husband was too ill to go upstairs. Rooms are a good size as are the bathrooms. Would definitely come back again!

Room Tip: We stayed on third floor which was really quiet but think all rooms here good as no one in our trafa...

I've just returned from a 3 night stay at the ESH hotel in Rome. I'm normally quite fussy when it comes to hotels and I couldn't fault this one!!! Everything was perfect from start to finish. When we arrived at the hotel the man on reception greeted us, told us our room was already and then he gave us tips on the buses to use, metro and a couple of maps. I wish I knew his name to mention him as he gave a 5 star service.

The hotel is spotless, air conditioned and has a modern feel. The rooms are a good size, has a lovely shower and bathroom. The room also has fridge, tv, hair dryer etc.

A few people have commented on distance from the main attractions, don't let this bother you. It isn't far at all. The bus stop is just a minutes walk opposite the hotel. Take the 881 bus into town. It runs very frequent. The metro is about a 10-15 minute walk to the metro. So easy to use and get around. Last train is 11:30pm and later on a Friday an Saturday. Cornelia is the name of the stop near the hotel.

Thoroughly recommend this hotel. Loved it!!! Will visit again.

Room Tip: All rooms are great, you can't hear anything. Perfect nights sleep after a day of sightseeing

Thought it would be nearer town due to hotel description but it was about an hours walk!! Good job we like to walk. However there were plenty of buses just outside. S
taff were really friendly in bar and restaurant. I am only giving it 4 stars because there were no tea/coffee making facilities in our room - unusual these days.

Stayed at the ESH hotel in Rome for 3 nights from 17th July 2013. It exceeded our expectations! Booked through Avios and didn't expect it to be great as used Avios for hotels before and always been given pretty poor rooms. This hotel is immaculately clean everywhere, fresh, modern, very comfortable and the staff are very friendly and speak good English too.

Cannot recommend this hotel enough. Don't be put off by it's location (not in the centre of Rome itself) but there is a bus stop directly opposite the hotel and the Metro station is only 15 minutes walk away (the Metro is a great system and easy to use). Hotel is on a busy road but we sat outside at night in the gardens having a drink and it was very quiet. No problem with noise at all even in the rooms. Would definitely stay again!

Room Tip: My husband and son had room 314 which was a corner room, very large with lots of natural light. My d...
