“BURIAL PLACE OF BERNINI”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 19, 2012

Another fantastic roman church - dating from 432 A.C. - containing a second CAPPELLA SISTINA and the tomb of Bernini. This is one of the four BASILICA of Rome, it means that is a really important sacred place. Really rich decoration. Must see.

“Magnificent”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 18, 2012

Very close to our hotel and near Termini. Lovely mosaics on the front though I would have liked a better view of them. A very large beautiful church.

“what's with the lights?!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 18, 2012

Wonderful church but why is it not possible to have the light swithes for the mosaics a little closer to the mosaics? At present you either do not realise there are lights at all, or by the time you have walked the length of the church after putting your money in the slot the time has run out!

“but that window....”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 18, 2012

Gorgeous, historical church with a 1990's stained glass window over the entrance (donated....but nonetheless) that is totally out of place. Ignore that and you have a wonderful experience. Restroom facilities limited.

“Santa Maria Maggiore”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 16, 2012

Check the time because we went late afternoon and it was closed. Glad we went back the next day because it was spectacular; full of riches, frescoes, statues and art. Magnicient ceiling paintings with gold. I could have spent at least an hour in this treasure. There were interesting shops nearby selling religious vestments and a monastic building. Well worth visiting if you are interested in religious history.
