There are a few hotels in the world which once experienced will always draw you back when one happens to be in that city. If in London it has to be the Lanesborough, if in Bangkok the Oriental etc. I am very pleased to say that the Hassler is now firmly in that category. It is polished, welcoming and belle epoch +. It remains in private hands which is where it should stay. I would thoroughly recommend that one chooses a Rome city side view, our room overlooked the Spanish Steps which provided an eternal view on the city, watching the comings and goings of the constant activity below. Bed was brilliant, little short though.... Spa was lovely, try the hot stone massage. The Imago restaurant has utterly stunning food with views to match.
Surprisingly there are a couple of things that do need addressing. The door isn't terribly well managed, the doormen seem to hide in a vestibule somewhere and aren't all that switched on to arrivals and opening the hotel doors or that of arriving cars. The hotel charges for things that similar standard hotels stopped charging for years ago; e.g. In room films, Internet, Mineral Water. A little arrogance in the Imago restaurant... kept us waiting for 35 minutes past our reservation without a bit of quid pro quo...
All in all a lovely experience.
