We had read all the reviews of the Albergo and were skeptical that the hotel would live up to the raves. We stayed for four nights ( September 21-24) and were very pleased.
It is evident that the hotel itself is all about service, with a front staff that knows how to respond in an immediate and professional manner that is at once friendly and helpful.
Last year we stayed at the Minerva, which is very near this hotel.
We found the room at the Senato to be comparable, and the front desk
staff much more accommodating. Of course, the Senato is much smaller than the Minerva but service is service.
Our room (402), a corner room with a view of the square and the Pantheon (and what a view) was a good size and well furnished with no signs of needing a "refreshing". Actually, it was quite elegant in an understated way. Housekeeping staff kept the room spotless.
We had planned to stay five nights but because of a health issue, we found it necessary to stay only four . The hotel staff was most gracious in consenting to this and did not charge us for the fifth night.
The breakfast is more than adequate -- fruit, cereal, juice, cold meats, cheese, eggs and sweet breads as well as pastry. The dining space is charming, and the young man who serves coffee etc., and clears was pleasant and quick to respond to all requests effeciently and with a smile. Even so, I would offer one suggestion regarding the service in the breakfast area. Newcomers were confused as to the procedure for breakfast. Some waited to be seated and there was no one there to seat them. . Since the presence of a host or hostess would not be feasiible, perhaps a discreet sign posted at the entrance would guide the guests as to procedures. (This, of course, presents a challenge because of the many languages needed).
And yes, we would certainly stay at this hotel again.
