We had read all the reviews of the Albergo and were skeptical that the hotel would live up to the raves. We stayed for four nights ( September 21-24) and were very pleased.
It is evident that the hotel itself is all about service, with a front staff that knows how to respond in an immediate and professional manner that is at once friendly and helpful.
Last year we stayed at the Minerva, which is very near this hotel.
We found the room at the Senato to be comparable, and the front desk
staff much more accommodating. Of course, the Senato is much smaller than the Minerva but service is service.
Our room (402), a corner room with a view of the square and the Pantheon (and what a view) was a good size and well furnished with no signs of needing a "refreshing". Actually, it was quite elegant in an understated way. Housekeeping staff kept the room spotless.
We had planned to stay five nights but because of a health issue, we found it necessary to stay only four . The hotel staff was most gracious in consenting to this and did not charge us for the fifth night.

The breakfast is more than adequate -- fruit, cereal, juice, cold meats, cheese, eggs and sweet breads as well as pastry. The dining space is charming, and the young man who serves coffee etc., and clears was pleasant and quick to respond to all requests effeciently and with a smile. Even so, I would offer one suggestion regarding the service in the breakfast area. Newcomers were confused as to the procedure for breakfast. Some waited to be seated and there was no one there to seat them. . Since the presence of a host or hostess would not be feasiible, perhaps a discreet sign posted at the entrance would guide the guests as to procedures. (This, of course, presents a challenge because of the many languages needed).

And yes, we would certainly stay at this hotel again.

What location could be better than opposite the Pantheon. Comfortable and scrupulously clean hotel with service more efficient than friendly.

The twin beds were very narrow and the typically low wattage Italian lighting was barely sufficient to read by.

The rooms and breakfast were better at Hotel Fortyseven where we stayed last time but the location of Albergo del Senato compensates for any minor quibles and we will definately return

ASK FOR ROOM 204. It is the only room with the private balcony facing the Pantheon. The room was comparable to that of a NY City hotel room. The bed was soft and comfortable. The roomwas clean and service was great. I would absolutely go back to this Hotel in a heart beat

We stayed at the Senato during the first week of August. When I had booked the room early in the year, I asked to have at least one room on the plaza side. The Senato at the time did not promise a plaza side room, but said they would try to accomodate our request. Since we needed two rooms, one being a triple, I wanted at least one room facing the Plaza. Sooo... not only did they give us a room facing the Plaza, but they upgraded our triple to a suite and BOTH rooms were on the top floor (6th floor) with balconies overlooking the Pantheon and plaza. WOW what a view. My kids could not believe the location we had and I spent my late evening hours sitting out on the balcony watching the "show" below and taking in the Pantheon. The staff was outstanding. They had excellent suggestions for dinner, not outrageously priced (and this was more difficult than it may seem since many of the better restaurants in Rome are closed in August. They accomodated every request with a smile and friendly perspective. Breakfast was very good with enough selection to satisfy, although not overly extensive (the expresso was perfect). The rooms were very nice, not huge but more than enough space for the two of us in the double room and for the kids (three teenagers) in the triple (suite). The baths were very nice and everything was kept clean. Finally, the location for touring the historical areas of Rome cannot be beat. I would stay here again in a hearbeat!

Absolutely fantastic location - you just can't beat opening the shutters and gazing on the Pantheon.

The breakfast and the room itself were somewhere between good and very good. There are 2 reasons for staying here - a central location which is in striking distance of just about everything that you would want to see in Rome and most importantly customer service as good as any hotel that i've ever stayed in. Little touches like a bottle of bubbly on your birthday and the consistently friendly and helpful attitude of the staff are what made our stay perfect
