Owner description: The creation of the Capitoline Museums has been traced back to 1471, when Pope Sixtus IV donated a group of bronze statues of great symbolic value to the People of Rome. The collections are closely linked to the city of Rome, and most of the exhibits come from the city itself.

“Must visit place for historical art”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 1, 2012

This place is big, but having all the signs and labels in English makes it great to wander around. They give you a leaflet with the most significant pieces marked. Lots of stairs. The pieces are first class.

“more sculptures and history”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 30, 2012

This is a great museum for sculptures and for the history of the Roman empire. It is not too busy and if there is a tour group you can just wait a few minutes till they leave and you have the displays to enjoy to yourself. There are a few well known sculptures here... for example Dying Gaul and the Boy removing a thorn from his foot. There are also mosaics and some paintings. This museum is located near the Roman Forum and the Victor Emmanuel monument. There is a restaurant on the top floor. Plan a visit of about two hours.

“Excellent museum”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 23, 2012

Very good museum - dont miss the cafe terrace with good views over Rome - reasonably priced coffee and sandwich for lunch. Some worthy exhibits - there are a lot of rooms so use an audio guide or a guide book to find the treasures of the museum and skip the more mundane busts of various emperors. The museum is split in two and the other half is reached by an underground passage so dont miss this bit out. Halfway along this passage is a corridor and some stairs that lead to the Tabularium at the back of the Capitoline Hill with stunning views over the Roman Forum.

“A lot to see but little information”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 19, 2012

There is alot of stuff to see in this museum. Just that the information is lacking. The audio was good till it ran out of battery on us, do check if the set is fully charge. Pictures are allowed in some galleries.
