“rome - open day tour”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 23, 2012

the hop on hop off tour bus, is actually what i like to do, when i first arrive in a city, if i am able.
it is a good way to orientate yourself, and understand where your hotel is situated, as well as being an excellent way to cover most of the main attractions.
being hop on - hop off, allows you to do just that! hop off and have a coffee, spend time in a particular area, park, place of interest, museum, art gallery, and then hop on, when you are done!
unfortunatly this way of travel has become rather expensive, but then, you have paid all this money to come to this country anyway, why not see all the main attractions of the city?
a little tip i learnt is, when you have a lilltle time to spare, ride the busses instead of taking the underground - you see the town, attractions, buildings etc pass by, instead of just darkness and black depressing walls!
bonvoyage!

“Disappointing”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 22, 2012

We purchased a 48 hour hop on, hop off ticket - information was scant, e.g. did not include duration of round trip or which was the last daily bus to complete the circuit. Staff were unhelpful, bordering on rude, audio commentary was practically useless.

Would not recommend this tour.

“Green bus "Rome Open Tour" is a disaster”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed October 16, 2012 via mobile

Green bus "Rome Open Tour" is a disaster - virtually none of the audio guide systems work in the buses, the boat was cancelled all day without notice and the staff tell you "sorry" but make no effort to soften the experience with basic commentary, partial refunds or anything like that. At €35 it is a big rip offs

“Customer care needs improvement”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 4, 2012

The buses came to designated stops at reasonable intervals, given the traffic situation at various periods during the day and at night. Our audio jacks worked, but the volume wasn't loud enough for me. The contents of the commentaries should be improved, with more substantive information.

On our first night on this bus, the trip, which was approximately on its remaining 20 min before reaching Termini stop and completing its very last round that evening, abruptly ended at a small street Via Lombardi. There actually 2 of these buses following each other. apparently the first bus was running late and the next one where our family was riding caught up with it. It was about 9:30pm and traffic was still heavy along the tour route. Consequently, to extract their buses from this heavy traffic, they turned into the small street. But the police came and apprehended the two bus drivers and commanded them to stop their buses. The conductors asked us and the other passengers (we were already few at that time, perhaps 8) to get off. But they did not even offer us taxi money so we could all ride back to Termini. A conductress gave directions how to find our way. After about 3 min of walking, and not all of us were walking at the same pace, we lost track of everyone else. OK, we found our way to Termini and our hotel nearby. It took us 20 min of walking, asking people on the streets for direction. And that was late at night, around 10pm. The point I'm making is that the driver and conductress had no concern for their passengers. It was their fault why the trip ended incomplete. But they abandoned their passengers, asking them just to walk back. They had no concern for customers' safety and comfort, especially at that late hour.

The other criticism I have is the stern manner of the conductress barking orders for passengers on the upper deck to remain seated. Of course everyone understands why there should be no standing or walking around while the bus is running. But in the morning of our second day it rained. All the seats of course upstairs were dripping wet. They had no service person, at least when the tour restarted at Termini, to wipe the seats dry as a service and courtesy to passengers. The service the bus provided was having paper napkins to which passengers helped themselves to wipe their seats dry. But when the bus rolled off to begin the tour, we and others passengers were still in a standing position while wiping our seats. We expected a little understanding from the conductress, but she wasn't concerned; she kept on barking the order that we must sit down. Of course, we did not sit down until we were able to wipe off the rain from our seats and seat backs. That's some stern woman.

Overall, the tour was average in quality. It met our basic objective; it gave us an overview of the major sights in Rome, at a relatively faster pace while secure from pickpockets at the street level.

“Good for a night tour of Rome!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 30, 2012

After researching the different tour companies and reading horrible reviews for all of them, we decided to go for the Rome Open tour (green buses) because as the agent explained to us, they're the only ones that run a bit later, I believe it was until 11pm.

We read that doing a night tour of Rome was a must, and we glad we did it!!! We did the 24 hour hop on hop off and really enjoyed the experience!!! The city does look beautiful with the attractions and the lights on. Yes, there's lot of traffic in Rome so you may have to wait a bit longer for the bus some times, but I think that's with any bus. We did have some audio troubles at one seat, but we just moved to another one and it worked fine. The descriptions of each site were good and basic, just what we needed. It gives you a good OVERALL tour of most sites in Rome (except the ones where you can't easily access by bus like Trevi Fountain, Spanish steps, etc)

However, it was great to be able to get off at Colosseum, Trastevere, etc and hop on again when we were tired after a few hours of walking...If you have time to relax in Rome, I'd suggest doing this first and then spending more time at each attraction. We actually did the full loop a few times (one during daytime, one at night time and just in between different sites) and enjoyed them

I'd definitely recommend it!
