“Alex Polizzi would have a fit if she visited this place...”

We last stayed at the Atlante Star in January 2007, when it was pristine, classy and deserving of it's 4* status.

7 years later, we thought we'd re-visit Rome and stay in the same hotel, as we had loved it so much the first time.

It was unfortunately such a disappointment 7 years on; as it appeared immediately obvious that no updates had been made to the place in all of those years. The place was scruffy, dirty and dated.

There was:

- No room service available for our whole stay

- No ability to get any food/beverages except for at breakfast

- No kettle in the room, so you can't even make yourself a brew

- WiFi only works when you're sat in the lobby or at the windy rooftop bar

- There was a bar on the roof of the hotel that opened at around 6pm each day, but it was effectively a prefabricated shack with some AstroTurf on the floor. Not suitable for sitting in when the weather is bad, as the wind and rain sweep-through!

In essence, we had to leave the hotel to even just get a cup of coffee. It shouldn't be like this in a so-called 4* establishment!

We stayed in room 505, where at 2am EVERY MORNING, the persons living in the residential apartment that our room backed onto would turn their TV on and crank the volume right-up until 4am on the dot, when it'd all fall silent again. Really annoying to say the least, and it wasn't something the hotel were too interested in trying to rectify.

All in all, a sad experience really. And such a shame, as we'd had fond memories of the place from our previous stay.

I do not know how it still has it's 4 stars, because it is at best, a 2*.

On a positive note; all staff were friendly and welcoming, and the hotel is in a great central location near to the Vatican.

Room Tip: Go for a room on the 5th floor, it's marginally better than the lower levels where the rooms are...

This was our third trip to Rome and this, by far, was our favorite hotel. We did not have a view from our window, however, the rooftop terrace provided the most beautiful view from all directions. Castel S'ant Angelo on one side, the Vatican on the other, especially at night was amazing. There was bar service up on the terrace so it was a brilliant place to have a nightcap. Our room was small but very clean. However, there was a bad smell every time we walked in which dissipated after a few minutes but was disconcerting on entry. The breakfast was very nice with views also from the dining room. We were within a few blocks from the Vatican and walking was easy. We will definitely stay here again.

We've been to Rome quite a few times so this was strictly a religous Vatican visit which is why we picked this hotel.
The view from our room , suite 715 was amazing. We watched the sunset behind the Vatican and just could not stop gazing out our windows with the Vatican so close. The driver picked us up at the airport as scheduled, make sure you put it in your booking if you need an arrival transfer and email the hotel your flight information 72 hours prior to your arrival which is required to get the complimentary transfer.
The desk staff was great, valet and our room was ready within 5 minutes. We had a problem with our room key and unlocking the door. Even the housekeeper had difficulty opening the lock. Turns out it need a fix and the staff came up that evening, replaced the broken part and it was working fine. The terrace bar server was nice... we had wine and enjoyed the view the sunset and the noon out at the same time. Up on the top is a great view of Rome, we did not stay long to look as a wedding reception was taking place. The front desk informed us we could go to mass at the Vatican but unfortunately, the 9am mass Monday morning was cancelled because of the Bishops convention. Staff was always helpful, friendly, and courteous. Our rate included breakfast which was decent but some of the items just tasted off and the coffee needs imrpovement. We prefer espressos and cappucinos to "American" style coffee anyhow.
The bathroom a cool design, (only issue which I did not get to advise staff of at check out as or transfer to Civitevecchia had arrived) is that the whirlpool jets/switch does not work and the hot water was barely luke warm so I did not get to enjoy the whirlpool tub though it's very pretty!
Great little market on the next street behind the hotel for bottled water and snacks.
Other than the guy who was not very friendly at check out, all the staff was wonderful. We would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: We were on the top floor, 7,in the suite. Amazing view! When looking out the windows the Vatican is...

I have all good to say about this hotel. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left was all fantastic. We arrived 11 am and we only had to wait 5 mins and was brought to our room. We were even upgraded. The room was fabulous. The location was perfect. On the 6th floor for breakfast it is looking out at the vatican. Also every night we sat on top floor and had a lovely bottle of wine, looking at the vatican. The staff are great and so helpful. I would 100% recommend this hotel and we will definitely go back.

We stayed a couple of nights here on the last leg of a long European trip. We found the staff professional and helpful but not overly friendly. The bell staff had their hands full as we had a great deal of luggage but they were fast and very nice. The rooms are very small but clean. Bathroom was also small as were the hallways. However, we were not here for a hotel experience rather to take in the sights and sounds of The Eternal City. The upstairs terrace was nice but the views from there were fantastic. The service was prompt and friendly. The breakfast was plentiful with hot and cold offerings. We would stay here again.

Room Tip: Be sure and ask for a larger room.

Currently on the last night of a weeks vacation to Rome with my fiancee. The hotel is ideally situated for St Peters Basilica which there is no charge to visit just get there before 9am to avoid the wating time. The vatican Musuem is a must also do at 16e entrance to see more paintings and statues than you will ever see in your life. We went to the Spanish steps, Pantheon, Fontanna Trevio, and the Colesuim all easy accessible on the Metro underground at 6 e for day ticket. The hotel has lovely rooftop views of the city. The rooms are small but we didnt spend much time there as we were out enjoying Rome. The food is generally reasonable out and about 10e to 20e each, The drinks are expensive at 5e for half lager and 7e for wine so be wary. Enjoy Rome.

Airport pickup from hotel was free but had to pay for return which was worth it. Great first impressions on arrival to hotel which continued through our stay. Check in quick & bags taken to room. Lovely room. Housekeeper came in everyday to clean room, change towels. Fantastic view of Rome from the rooftop. Breakfast had a varied choice & good quality. Staff worked hard to keep everything topped up & tables cleared quickly. All the staff were friendly & very hardworking making it a a lovely stay.
