The Roma Cavalieri is a very high end hotel (room rate- 270-400 Euro- depending on weeknight or weekend). Be warned- they don't have much tolerance for those who do not have money to burn. As first time travelers to Rome, we decided to indulge in the Roma Cavalieri. The hotel sits outside of the center of Rome on a hilltop overlooking the city. That being said- the hotel is beautiful.

The rooms are very large. The furniture and decor have a modern Italian flair. The balcony overlooking the pool and the city make it worth the stay. We stayed on two separate occassions (start and end of trip). We stayed in rooms 363 and 365. NOTE: The higher the floor- the better the view of the city/Vatican. Get a room with a balcony- there is a piano player that plays every night by the pool. The music streams up to the balcony.

There are two pools- inside and outside. Warning- A lounge chair at the pool is 20 Euro. The gym was large and was free of charge.

The hotel bar will run you 15 Euro per drink. The bar has no atmosphere. Mellow vibe.
I can't speak to the food- after the drink tab, we decided against dining in the hotel.

As for getting into the city, there is a shuttle bus that drops and picks you up at Plazza Barbieri. The shuttle runs fairly regualrly and we never had a problem getting on it (never full to capacity).

On multiple occassions, one of the gentleman at the Concierge's desk was completely useless or incorrect. For example, the hotel rental car office had no cars available. The Concierge directed us to a rental car office several blocks from the hotel. Upon arrival, the office was closed for the MONTH due to holiday. Upon returning to the hotel, the Concierge attempted to redirect us to the SAME office. Long story short- we had to return to the AIRPORT to rent a car.

If you do rent a car, you can park the car on the street. The hotel will charge you 5 Euro to park in the outdoor lot and 30 Euro to park in the inside lot. WARNING- Upon retunring with a rental car, they tried to force us to pay the 30 Euro for indoor parking b/c they were working on the outside lot. They refused to drop down the rate, even though it was the hotel's fault we could not park outside. 25 Euro is a BIG difference. My husband had to put up a stink to get the parking for 5 Euro.

All in all- it was worth it, if you want to spend the money.

Nicest place I've ever stayed. Could never have afforded full price.

Hands down, the nicest hotel I've ever stayed at. I honestly didn't feel like I belonged among the European royalty that we were sharing the place with.

The only down side was that neither they, or the staff really did much to help us feel that way either. I found both the other guests and the help to be rather snooty. I guess they think you're paying for more than down home charm here, but for a hotel that clearly has so much invested in it, the people all seemed to be pretty cold. Speaking of paying for things, be prepared to get charged extra for every little thing, and about 3 times more than what you might consider reasonable even in such a nice place. The concierge was worse than helpful, we used the desk about 6 or 7 times, and almost every time they gave us bad or wrong information.

All that said, the rooms are spectacular, the views couldn't have been painted better, the bars are top notch, the gym is first class, and the pool is completely insane and will keep you from wanting to explore Rome.

The location is not ideal for sightseeing, but we found our way into the city pretty easily using the free shuttle or cheap cab rides.

The Rome Cavalieri is a beautiful hotel situated on top of one of the hills outside of Rome...way outside of Rome if you want to walk to any of the historic sites. We found the hotel to be a bit snobby. Prices for food were outrageous, on the cheap side of the menu were the 22 Euro turkey sandwich and 45 Euro pizza. Our biggest issue was location. The hotel is not close to anything, so you are either in for a very long hike (this coming from someone who walks everywhere), the shuttle bus (which last runs at 8 PM) or a cab (~15 Euro from downtown to the hotel). Given the location and cost issues, the hotel has stunning grounds and a great view overlooking the city, though I would not go back.

As others have said, the Hilton Cavalieri is not in the center of town, however, we loved coming back to this oasis after a day of sighseeing. The gounJds and pools were gorgeous and the food was very good(although Expensive)

We used a combination of taxis and the Hotel shuttle to go into the city center. Breakfast is expensive, Just take a right at the strret in front of the hotel and you will find a coffe shop (bar) with pastries.

I highly recomment the Hilton Cavalieri. EVerything from the large marble bathroom to comfortable were fantastic.

Do Not drive in Rome. We rented a car at the on-site Hertz location inside the hotel, but, would not recommend it. Take a train and pick up the car in another town

Rome Cavalieri boast the detail and services I've only seen in Asian & Middle-East hotels. Interrior is elegant and finished to the smallest detail. La Pergola restaurant of the hotel hasn't earned it's 3 Michelin starts for nothing. Pricey but experience worth the money. Hotel has awesome garden and especially Spa with cold war pool within the steam room.
