The Roma Cavalieri is a very high end hotel (room rate- 270-400 Euro- depending on weeknight or weekend). Be warned- they don't have much tolerance for those who do not have money to burn. As first time travelers to Rome, we decided to indulge in the Roma Cavalieri. The hotel sits outside of the center of Rome on a hilltop overlooking the city. That being said- the hotel is beautiful.
The rooms are very large. The furniture and decor have a modern Italian flair. The balcony overlooking the pool and the city make it worth the stay. We stayed on two separate occassions (start and end of trip). We stayed in rooms 363 and 365. NOTE: The higher the floor- the better the view of the city/Vatican. Get a room with a balcony- there is a piano player that plays every night by the pool. The music streams up to the balcony.
There are two pools- inside and outside. Warning- A lounge chair at the pool is 20 Euro. The gym was large and was free of charge.
The hotel bar will run you 15 Euro per drink. The bar has no atmosphere. Mellow vibe.
I can't speak to the food- after the drink tab, we decided against dining in the hotel.
As for getting into the city, there is a shuttle bus that drops and picks you up at Plazza Barbieri. The shuttle runs fairly regualrly and we never had a problem getting on it (never full to capacity).
On multiple occassions, one of the gentleman at the Concierge's desk was completely useless or incorrect. For example, the hotel rental car office had no cars available. The Concierge directed us to a rental car office several blocks from the hotel. Upon arrival, the office was closed for the MONTH due to holiday. Upon returning to the hotel, the Concierge attempted to redirect us to the SAME office. Long story short- we had to return to the AIRPORT to rent a car.
If you do rent a car, you can park the car on the street. The hotel will charge you 5 Euro to park in the outdoor lot and 30 Euro to park in the inside lot. WARNING- Upon retunring with a rental car, they tried to force us to pay the 30 Euro for indoor parking b/c they were working on the outside lot. They refused to drop down the rate, even though it was the hotel's fault we could not park outside. 25 Euro is a BIG difference. My husband had to put up a stink to get the parking for 5 Euro.
All in all- it was worth it, if you want to spend the money.
