“First a nickel, then a dime”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 28, 2008

Cost to logon to the internet for 24 hours? 27 Euros
Cost for one bowl of soup? 28 Euros
Cost to sit by the pool? 16 Euros
Cost for the bottle of water to accompany your tennis lesson? 5 Euros
Your stay at the Cavalieri Hilton? A nickel and dime experience.

Yes, the hotel is beautiful, the rooms elegant, the location serene, but when one is spending north of $400 a night for a room, can't the hotel throw in a little something.

We stayed here as part of a conference held at the hotel. If we had been here for a vacation, maybe I'd have a felt a little less nickel and dimed, because we would've opted out of extras - like the internet.

Also, if you're really there to see Rome, the remote location is frustrating, because the shuttle is just hourly with a four-hour break midday and an early end at 8pm. Also, every time I got on the shuttle it was full - requiring those, not there 15 minutes early to wait in line, to stand for the 20 minute trip, get off and pay for a taxi, or to wait an hour for the next shuttle.

Would not stay here again for these reasons, though it's a great place for those seeking romance and a spa experience and with less time and monetary hangups.

“A change of Name”

The old Hilton Cavalieri...now part of the Waldorf Astoria Group.
420 Euros a night Executive Floor room..upgraded to Rome view.
Have stayed here 4 times before. I f you are staying there the Executive floor is a must. Otherwise you will have to eat & drink out. Two small Italian beers 20 Euros, Scotch and a Boody Mary came in at 33 Euros. All free in the exec lounge.
The staff in the Exec lounge are a treasure..you want for nothing.
Lounge meals have gone down slightly....repeats of pasta and rice keeping the costs down but not enhancing such a prestige hotel.
Changed some of the bathroom accessories to rather naff cheap items you would more than likely see in a Holiday Inn.
Rooms excellent and to a high standard but damp stains on coving ...not what you expect for 4w20 Euros a night.
The hotel is a high standard but is starting to look its 30+ years in places. Little chips and knocks here and there that haven't been repaired soon add up and take the exclusivness and elegance away from the building.

“GReat Hotel- but Location was a real CON along with HOTEL Food prices!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 22, 2008

I was here for six days working at a work conference so I personally did not pick the hotel.

I have stayed at many fine hotels in my life and yes, I would say that this hotel really is a special gem and quite nice.

The PROS:
Really nice pool, fitness center,
Very Comfortable rooms- especially the bed
Great cleaning of rooms and overall clienliness
Staff was polite and very efficent

CONS:
LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION... this is what really put a damper in my stay. You simply cannot just walk outside and see places, dine nor stroll. There really is not much in this area and this really was quite frustrating. The hotel has a free shuttle into town but if you must base your day around a shuttle. Taxi's are plenty but 15euros into town is anoying too.
FOOD PRICES- Again, I have stayed in many nice places in my life and have no issue paying for good food... BUT 11EUROS a soda is a CRIME! My dinners were about 70-100 euros each night without any STEAK or FISH!

Overall.. the hotel is great but bc of location and exagerated food prices, I would not go back.

“Phenomenal Hotel”

Most of the other reviews sum up the hotel very well. This truly is one of the finest Hilton properties around, nicer than the Waldorf. My wife and I stayed for three nights in August, it was our second stay there.

If you can stay using points, the costs of the incidentals is more than worth it. Yes, everything there is very expensive, but if you have use of the club level the lounge is excellent offers food throughout the entire day and free drinks including alcohol.

All of the staff was extremely helpful with reservations or any other questions that we had, and everyone spoke excellent English.

“I would definitely recommend the Rome Cavalieri Hilton to Diamond Members”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 30, 2008

I would definitely recommend this hotel to Hilton Honors Diamond Members. As a Diamond Member you are booked on the executive floor with access to the executive lounge with free snacks and drinks (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic)available throughout the day. The rooms are very large and have a private balcony. The bathroom is marble and is very large; if you like to takes baths, you will love the bathtub. You also have a private elevator to access the executive floor. You receive a complimentary chair pad and towel at the pool; it is 16 euros for other guests. The pool is large and very clean. The hotel offers a free shuttle to Piazza Barberini. The only drawback is that the last shuttle returns to the hotel at 8pm daily. Try to get there a little early in case the shuttle fills up; this was only a problem on one of our return trips. It is 20 to 30 euros for a taxi from Barberini to the hotel. If you must purchase food or beverages at the hotel it is very expensive. Soda and water are $12 and a hamburger at the pool was $40. If you need an iron, pack one. They are not provided, but you can pay an extravagant amount to have them press your clothes.

Everyone at the hotel was very friendly and most everyone spoke English fluently. It was definitely worth the 40,000 points per night.

  • Liked — Great room with great view of the city
  • Disliked — high cost of food/drinks
