“Loved it! However, this is not a B&B.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 23, 2010

We had a wonderful time at this hotel, it is not a B&B.

The hotel is located on the second floor of a complex, and occupies one corridor, about 8 or 9 rooms total. There is a small lobby/reception desk at the end of the hall. Daniele, the owner, is on site half of the day, however can be reached by mobile very easily at any time and will coordinate when you check in, just give him 20min notice and he'll be there to meet you. He will also help you locate a parking space, its all metered parking in the area (but very reasonable, we paid 4 euros for 24hrs).

Everything is new, the hotel just opened early July 2010. Some of the closets and things have a bit of fresh paint smell, I imagine its already gone by now. The rooms are pretty large, furnishings are very modern and clean. Nice large flat screen TV with plenty of channels, comfy (a bit harder) beds, rainfall shower head (bathrooms are a bit smaller). We recieved one of the largest rooms with a couch that could fold into another bed. Also there is a small fridge and electric water kettle/boiler. The A/C worked perfectly and the windows are multi-paned, even though we were on the street we didnt hear any noise (and I am a fairly light sleeper). You can however here your neighbors in the hallway through your door, the walls seem pretty insulated though. Oh, there is also free wifi from the hotel with reasonable speeds (probably mid-to-slow DSL).

The hotel is located about 10mins walk to the Vatican and is in a nice neighborhood, very clean and safe. There is a great (though a bit pricey) restaurant directly in front of the hotel. And breakfast is served at a small cafe just down the street, included with the price of lodging. Its a nice meal with fresh orange juice, coffees, and an assortment of breads, jam, and butter.

Daniele also owns A View from Rome which is more B&B like and has high ratings on TA. He is very helpful and will arrange tickets, book restaurants, and hire taxis for you as needed. After we checked out, we were able to leave our baggage in storage, it was a bit odd since it was just placed in a cleaning closet and we were given the keys to the closet, but it was nice that he trusted us - hopefully no one bad abuses this system! The keys themselves are a bit bulky, you have to carry three keys, the building, the hotel door, and your room key.

We really enjoyed our stay, it was easy to get to from the airport, the accommodations were very nice and we felt that it was a bargain price for what we got. You won't get much staff support per se, but for the more experienced traveler its fine. I would stay here again when/if I return to Rome.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2010

I tried to book this hotel because of all the fabulous reviews but I was told that the original hotel was full and the owner suggested that I stayed in their 2nd hotel "A Peace of Rome" in via Fabio Massimo. Thinking that this new one was from the same owner and probably would be as good as the previous one, I just went ahead without checking further. What a mistake !

Based on all the previous review, I was thinking I could have a room with a lovely view of the Vatican but in fact the room was on the first floor and with only street view and nothing else. Totally disappointed! You will be given a set of 3 keys, one for the entrance to the building, another one for the 1st floor door, then the 3rd one for your room. You will have to carry this set of keys at all times.

The room was new and the closet was still with strong paint smell. There seemed to be a problem with the drainage or pipe system, so whenever we used the bathroom there was a strange 2 sec piping sound every 5 secs, this would stop when we finished using the bathroom, therefore not that big a problem. The aircon worked perfectly and they have free wifi service and great connection. Daniele and Ivette were very helpful and friendly. However, they will only be at the hotel every morning from 8am to 12pm, so if you need assistance in the afternoon or evening like try to get a cab or something, you are on your own. There is no phone in the room, so you have to rely on your own cell phone.

The hotel is a good 10 min walk to the metro station and there is no bus stop nearby. If you want to get a taxi for going out at night, you do need to call the taxi company.

There are a couple of small cafes and restaurants near the hotel area and there is this new restaurant called Piero e Francesco right across which provides good quality food and service although a bit pricey.

Breakfast is served in a small cafe across the street which includes orange juice, yoghurt, bread and coffee.

Afterall, paying 100 euro per night for this B & B hotel cannot be count as a great deal but it is still not bad.

However, I may check out reviews or offers of othe hotels next time.

Dear Madam,

We appreciate very much, the time you spent on writing your thoughtful review of your visit with us. You have reminded us that we can always be clearer regarding some of the special services and options we offer to our guests which may be unique and beyond that at other, similarly priced B&B’s.
Unlike many B&B’s and more costly Hotels in Rome we offer FREE WIFI in every room 24 hrs a day. We are glad you found that helpful and useful in your visit with us. We are always available to help if there are questions regarding how to sign in and use it properly
We appreciated you noticing that we have brand new Air Conditioning for all of our guests in each room, that you can adjust to your comfort, especially on some of our warmer summer nights.
As always, we try to meet each and every need of our guests and of course we always welcome your generous compliments. We greatly appreciate the kind words for our staff, we are glad you noticed and thank you.
We do want to apologize for your misunderstanding about the location and view from our newest property, A Peace of Rome, which is a just 300 meters away from our other property, A View of Rome, which does have a lovely view of the city. We have tried to clarify that difference with the naming of each hotel, and with clear pictures of each on our website. We always clearly explain the differences to our guests when they make arrangements, and we did do so with your companion – however it appears that you were not clear about that and for this we are sorry.
One of the things many of our guests report liking about A Peace of Rome is that it is situated in a nice neighbourhood and surrounded by safe streets and many restaurants and cafes. It is also like a private residence in that there are only 6 rooms in this B&B unlike large hotels where there can easily be hundreds of guests per night. We are always here to greet new guests irrespective of the hour of arrival (we know flights can be delayed and trains can be late), as long we know you are coming and when. Otherwise we staff our B&B a minimum of 12 hours per day from 7AM to 8PM and are available for any emergencies. We try to make that clear on our website and when making reservations, but we can always do better and we appreciate the feedback.
Regarding telephones - It was decided not to put a telephone in each room as to give our guests the desired peace of a pleasant vacation. We do have a phone at the front desk which also includes international calling capabilities which we provide for FREE to our guests who may wish to make a call and not have a cell phone handy with them. We would like to thank you and your companion for making this suggestion to us and you will be pleased to know it is now available for all to use for free. Thank you.
Regarding our security and keys. We are blessed with a beautiful, historic and secure building and to keep it so we have three keys to use for the front door, the main door and your own room. Our guests appreciate the safety and security they bring, and we are sorry if you found them inconvenient. We also have free safes in each room – which you know do not need a key, just your memory to use!
Each guest gets a complimentary breakfast at the Café LA DOLCE VITA just a few meters from our front door – so you will get to eat side by side with locals grabbing a quick espresso or a muffin. Unlike many B&B’s which are self-serve and only having cold items – Our Breakfast Menu includes : fresh orange juice, hot drinks, bread, toast, croissant, honey or jam, butter hard boiled eggs and yogurt. We are proud to offer this and it is ample for most of our visitors.
Regarding our location – We couldn’t be more centrally located to multiple forms of transportation and to all the wonderful things to visit here in Roma; Our B&B is only 300 meters from the closest subway (the Ottaviano), 200 meters from the first bus stop (#81) which goes straight through the city center,. This bus also connects with the #117 which takes you to the Coliseum. 350 meters from our front door, you can catch another Bus to Trestevere/ Testaccio (the Roman neighbourhood), and only 400 meters from our front door is the first streetcar which takes you to Villa Borghese. Otherwise you can go to the nearby taxi stand which is only 300 meters from our B&B, in Piazza di Risorgimento.
Lastly, we are happy to have recently fully renovated and updated A Peace of Rome – for the comfort and pleasure of all of our guests. Like a new Ferrari car smell (which we really like) – new things have new smells and as such we realize that some people may be more sensitive than others. We have been operating successfully here since early July 2010 and although we still look and feel new, and are sparkling fresh – I do not think we smell like a “new car” – or a Ferrari anymore. Perhaps that would be more suitable for you now? Please visit us again and see if you agree. Thank you and be well.
