“An oasis amongst the excitement of Rome”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 10, 2013

Our family stayed at Babuino 181 for four nights. On arrival we were greeted by the delightful concierge, Theodora. She immediately asked our plans and suggested a segway tour for our family as an orientation that would be fun and not tiring for our kids. We had read about this but thought our youngest daughter was too young (11yo). However Theodora knew a tour where children are well taken care of and it was the highlight of our Rome visit. She also had great recommendations for lunch and dinner places that well suited our requests. The suite was lovely with a great rooftop terrace. The amenities and details really make this place. Frette linens, fabulous toiletries, and even a diffuser for the hairdryer. Breakfast and evening drinks are in a wonderful space at the top of one of the buildings. This is where we had the chance to meet the charming Alberto, the owner of the property. Alberto had just published a delightful booklet full of tips on sites, restaurants, shopping etc gained from several family generations residing in this neighbourhood. Finally the location is perfect. Close to sites, restaurants and shopping. I would happily return to Babuino 181 on our next visit.

We were really torn when writing this review. Overall the quality of hotel and furnishing was high, however there were a couple of issues.

The hotel was pleasant, very spacious and and very modern. We booked a standard room and were very pleased with the sleep quality. The bed was very comfortable and humongous. It was very quiet, we couldn't hear anyone else unless they were in the hallway. The light was perfectly shut out

The bathroom was good; the bath was deep and the shower had good pressure.

The TV was of good size and we enjoyed the in room facilities. The Nespresso machine was fantastic, as was the iPod dock.

We did, however, have a couple of negatives. Although the negatives were rectified quickly, we felt it fair to relay this information on. We dropped our luggage with the hotel early in the morning before check in, and had emailed the hotel previously to make sure this was ok. When we arrived to check in, we found that only two of our four bags had arrived in our room, with the two missing bags containing passports, cash and other personal items including medicine.

When we had dropped off our luggage in the morning a concierge had joked about how our items of value may be sold; which in hindsight, whilst we were sat waiting for our bags to show up was quite worrying. The bags were found after an hour (when we had to look through other people's hotel rooms) and we were informed that we'd be given a complimentary bottle of champagne by way of an apology and to help us relax after the stress caused. The bottle didn't find its way to our room either!

We relayed this information to our booking agent, who very swiftly spoke to the hotel. The hotel manager was very quick to rectify any issues we had; he improved our stay greatly and gave us a full refund for one of the nights. The concierge who helped to locate our luggage was very helpful and seemed almost as relieved as we were when the bags were found!

In the hotel's welcome booklet, there is a note saying to ask the hotel about their fantastic walking routes around the Borghese park, however, when asked about these routes the hotel had no advice to offer and just stated that it was a beautiful place to visit.

On another negative note, there were quite a few scuff marks and some of the finishing touches could have been improved.

We only stayed in the hotel for two nights, our second night was very enjoyable. The second night was drastically better than the first and if in Rome again, we would revisit the hotel without any concerns.

We stayed at the the Babuino 181 for 3 nights in mid June. It could not have been a more pleasant stay. The rooms are beautiful - simply and smartly designed. They are incredibly quiet given the location on a busy, fun Rome street. Amenities offered in the room and in the hospitality suite are the perfect cure - espresso, water, something sweet - especially after long touring days in amazing Rome. And of course the roof top happy hour!

The location could not have been better.

The staff were courteous and attentive - always going the extra mile. Even gelato recommendations were well worth following.

Above all the staff had class - a stylish hotel, they were low key, responsive and most of all, they were kind.

I highly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Corner room had great windows. And great morning sun. The windows and window shutters contain nois...

Second stay at Babuino 181 and it wont be the last.
Yes it's expensive but you get what you pay for. Beautiful rooms, staff that end over backwards to help and a roof terrace for breakfast and complimentary aperitifs.
Love it.

This was my first trip to Rome. We are in the last 3 days of a 3 week Europe vacation. Babuino 181 was a nice way to finish.

Unfortunately for Babuino 181, we came from an incredible hotel in Forte dei Marmi, therefore, all 5 stars I harder to receive from me.

The room, deluxe, was spacious enough. Everything was modern and nice. I appreciated the separate bath tub and shower stall. I'm tall, so it's quite nice to actually have a tub where my legs can be straight and be completely submerged in the water. The bath salts they provided when we arrived were also nice.

The staff was great, especially Cornel. He was the server at breakfast and the evening bartender. He was very sweet and welcoming. We enjoying chatting with him. Jai and Teodora from the front desk were also very nice and helpful with dinner or gelato recommendations, including securing us reservations when we wanted them.

The negatives: the breakfast wasn't a total negative, but based on my Forte dei Marmi stay (Villa Roma Imperiale) it was mediocre at best. They provided some fresh fruit, toast, cereal, cheese, salami, scrambled eggs and...hot dogs? Meh. Also, the price of this hotel is high. Very high.

The location was fantastic, and I suppose that's what you pay for. I would stay here again the next time I am in Rome.

We were originally booked to stay at their sister hotel, Mario de Fiori. However, the AC was having maintenance issues, so we were re-booked at Babuino 181, which ended up being great. Originally, I was bummed out because I was excited to stay in the rooftop suite in Mario de Fiore because it was our honeymoon, but Babuino 181 left nothing more to be desired. The room was elegant, comfortable, and luxurious. It was a great retreat from busy city life down below on the streets of Rome. The location was great, right near tons of shopping, and within walking distance of the Spanish Steps and the Trevi Fountain. The staff was extremely courteous and accommodating. They were all incredibly friendly and helpful. We felt very at home. Breakfast each morning was great and enjoyable on the roof-top lounge. Everything about our stay was luxurious and fantastic. Would recommend to anyone!

While not cheap, if you have the budget this was a great hotel to stay in - very close to Spanish steps, right next to best shopping area and walking distance to most places. While we stayed, the roof top bar had a free happy hour from 6-9 pm which was a great way to relax after a long day out sightseeing. we understand this may change as they were looking to create a cocktail bar. No restaurant as such, but breakfast, on the roof terrace was included and plenty of choice for us.

Room Tip: we were in a new annex across the road which was very quiet with no street noise at all - although w...
