“My favourite restaurant in Rome”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 9, 2011

This is a great restaurant which I have visited on numerous occasions over the years, most recently at the beginning of May 2011. There is always a friendly welcome and the meals are good wholesome Roman food; efficiently delivered and delicious to eat. This was the first time I travelled with young children and they were accommodated easily, without any difficulty. A special high chair was available for the younger one. The location is excellent if you are near St Peter's basilica. Usually a reservation is unnecessary except at busy times. On the evening before the beatification of Pope John Paul II we were squeezed in without a reservation. Needless to say we reserved our seats for the following evening along with a couple of friends and we were not disappointed. The prices are more than reasonable- just take care when ordering some fish dishes which are priced by weight! All in all a wonderful find and well tried and tested by our family.

“Lucky choice”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 29, 2011

Our last night on a 18 day trip; wanted to keep it simple & close by our hotel. We had lunch across the street at a trattatoria & knew that it was very good. So with a flip of a coin..picked da Romolo. Four of us were first told that we needed a reservation, however, magically a table was located. One in the party was unable to decide, so the waiter said he would order for him. "I'm always right" & also for dessert. The waiter was correct on both counts. Each a diffrent entree & all were very good. The house wine was a generous liter & the prices reasonable. We rsoon realized that this was a local favorite as there were many families with small children. Recommend trying it if you are near Castell San Angelo.

“Quite good if you are near the Vatican”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 14, 2011

We were visiting the Vatican & got hungry & started to walk toward the river. We got out of 'restaurant row' & came upon this place and were very glad. The food was very good and even better, they did not seem to mind that we just wanted to sit a drink wine for a while before we ate. Food was above average (for Rome) and the staff very accommodating. It was worth the walk if you are over in that part of town.

“Crowded and where the locals eat”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 31, 2010

We saw the Tripadvisor reviews and were somewhat sceptical to go there. But we were SO pleased we did. We arrived at 6.30pm and sat down, then within the next 20 minutes the restuarant was crowded, and people were turned away for next hour or so. Wall to wall italians and locals and the odd tourist like us.
We ordered the Carbonara and Bolonese.....WOW is all we can say, it was incredible best we have eaten anywhere in the world, we were blown away.
Then had the scallopine with Lemon, that was ok but not brilliant.
The pasta dishes are well worth the trip for, you will be in heaven eating it and will rave about it after doing so. Make the trip its worth the effort l guarantee it. Waiters have a friendly disposition, unlike most Italian restaurants we have encountered so far.

“Great Spagetti Carbonara!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 8, 2010

After a visit to 'Basilica di San Pietro' we went for a lunch to Trattoria Porta Castello where we had a very nice lunch a few days earlier. Unfortunately that trattoria was closed.
Hungry as we were, we decided not to wander the streets in search for a good trattoria but went straight for the trattoria across the street called Trattoria da Romolo.
We ordered a starter with rucola and bresoala wich was very tasty. A Spagetti Carbonara and ravioli with spinach and ricotta followed. The tomato sauce that came with the ravioli was very good and tasted like it was made from fresh tomatoes. The spagetti carbonara was especially good. Very rich flavours in the sauce and the bacon was extremely good and tastefull.
Definitly worth a visit.
